    DEDICATION

I dedicate this book to the LORD for His love and mercies, to my mom Paulina Amegashie, whose devotion to God has left an indelible mark on my life. To my wife Evelyn Lotsu Hovor, who has stood by my side and continues to love me unconditionally and finally to my siblings for their continued support. I am forever indebted to you all.

    PREFACE

In the early 1990s, as a young instrumentalist and a Christian, I availed my talent to the church. I recount my experiences and frustrations as a church musician in dealing with the authorities placed to oversee Praise and worship and managers of the church band. Instrumentalist especially were seen as recalcitrant individuals and we saw leadership as insensitive to our course, because there was lack of coordination and understanding between Musicians and the managers. The church hasn’t only loss fine musicians to secular bands, but also lost musicians who lost the faith owing to some of these gaps.

The story wasn’t different with my other musician friends in other churches. Then, I appreciated how difficult it is as an authority overseeing music in the church when I became a leader.

My frustration as a church musician and the challenges in dealing with musicians as a leader, is this book borne, to provide a guideline to better the teamwork, to close the gaps in coordination and to promote intimacy with God through the Holy Spirit.

The whole assembly bowed in worship, while the musicians played and the trumpets sounded. All this continued until the sacrifice of the burnt offering was completed. 2 Chronicles 29:28

    ACKNOWLEDGMENT

I would like to take this opportunity to express a special gratitude to Rev. Lawrence Hovor who is the general overseer of the International Family Church, Ghana and Rev. Dennis Nutsugah, the head pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Kpone, Ghana for their valuable pieces of advice during the course of this book being written and also, for their contributions towards the composition of the Cooperate Praise Declarations. I would also like to appreciate the head pastor of Sureway Christian Centre in London, UK, Rev. Promise Ave, for his mentorship during my days as a young instrumentalist at God Inspired Ministry. Also not forgetting the contributions of Pastor Edmond Johnson, a former music director for Tema First Baptist Church and a current associate minister at Agape Global Ministry and music coordinator for the Grove Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA whose association and partnership as musicians brought out the best in me. My appreciation will be unfinished without mentioning Randy Nii Bortey Sango, the graphic designer who worked on this book. Finally, thanks to all the people whose contribution and moral support has brought this book to fruition.

    God richly bless you.

It is an eye opener to pragmatic praise and worship experience and to help promote love relationship and intimacy with God.

May the Holy Spirit help us to put into practice what we are about to study. God does not seek worship because He already has worship in Heaven, but He seeks worshippers: Rev. 4: 4-8, Isaiah 6: 1-3, Psalms 19:1. So, we do not listen to worship nor play worship, rather, we participate in worship. In His quest for worshippers, God who sees every heart doesn’t look at the pretenses and gesticulations that seemly portrays worship but looks directly at the heart. Worship is man’s open-hearted response to God’s love, grace and power.

1 Samuel 16:7 King James Version (KJV)

⁷But the Lord said unto Samuel, look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward
