    Definitions

    HERESY: a willfully held false teaching, which detracts from the Person and work of Jesus Christ. It may be either beguilingly subtle and/or militantly violent. Heresy is often driven by demonic opposition (as well human sinfulness) and must be distinguished from well-meaning error, which may arise out of genuine ignorance.

    HERETIC: someone advocating or adhering to a heresy. Unlike a person in error – who is open to correction – a heretic is entrenched in his views. It is a self-willed often firmly held choice. Impervious to reason, a heretic has may have rejected a previously understood portion of biblical teaching, replacing it with the chosen heresy.
