    There are hundreds of books on wine available today, most of them written by people with more technical expertise than this writer. The only excuse I have for writing this little guide, is that I have found over the past forty years of drinking and studying wine that most of the good wine books contain so much information and detail about obscure wine that they completely overwhelm people who want to spend more time drinking wine than studying it. I have also encountered too many waiters who think Zinfandel is only a blush wine (a term I reserve for those rosé wines which lack any real flavor other than sugar), and I hope that perhaps some of those waiters may be willing to read a short description of some of the most commonly available wines in the United States, even if they have no interest in knowing the best vintages of Bordeaux.
