Rhema Through My Song - Brenda Jefferson

    Chapter One: Lamb of God

Life is just heavy some days. When you feel heavy and burdened, in despair and without hope, God reminds us that He is all that we need. He promises to bring beauty instead of ashes, joy instead of mourning, and praise instead of despair. If you feel stuck in a hard place today and can’t see a way out of your current situation, God wants to fully cover you with His garments of praise.

In the spiritual realm, sacrifice and praise are intertwined. Offering a sacrifice of praise requires acknowledging that God is worthy above all else. The lamb represents Christ as both suffering and triumphant. The lamb of God who took away the sins of the world. In being slain, He slew death. In most cultures, the lamb is represented as a highly valued possession symbolizing sweetness, forgiveness, meekness, innocence, and purity.

❖  Psa. 34:1 I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

The lamb on the altar is equivalent to the crucifixion of Christ. When offering up praise, it allows His Spirit to rise up within us. It doesn’t matter how good we think we can or cannot sing. It doesn’t matter if we like upbeat worship, more reflective songs, or traditional hymns. Whether we are alone or in a big crowd. In present times, our hearts must be in tune with our Creator, pressing in close to Him.

We may be weary. We’re struggling or maybe we feel like God has let us down. Painful life blows and losses may have recently sent us spiraling. We are still trying to remain hopeful during uncertainty. Brave, even though we may feel broken. When we make the decision to fix our eyes on Jesus and give Him praise, no matter what, it can make a lasting impact. As we close our eyes, parting our lips to let out a sound, God has already begun to release the grip those struggles can have over us.

❖  Psa. 61:3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

❖  Psa. 16:7 I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel, my reins also instruct me in the night season.

Worshipping God in the midst of personal storms, allows our faith to grow deeper and God is honored. Our praise is to be continually offered up to God, not just when we feel adequate or life is good. In Isaiah, the 29th chapter, it expresses how many individuals worship Him with their lips, but their hearts are far from Him. Praise is not a reward to God for His blessings; it is an obligation from a humble heart that has been purified by the fire.

❖  Psa. 47:1 O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.

A sacrificial lamb is a metaphorical reference of an animal or person, being sacrificed for a common good. Jesus was killed like a lamb for our sins so we could live forever. Our prayer should always be: ‘Grant us peace, have mercy on us, we adore you and bow at your feet. Give ear to our prayer, O God. Give ear to our praise, O God. Incline your ears to the words of our mouths. Be merciful to us and bless us. We submit ourselves under the greatness of thy power. Refill us with a zeal to restore and rejoice. Anoint us and allow our cups to run over. Lift up your voice like a trumpet! Proclaim through praise to speak of His righteousness. God, we magnify you.’ When you give your burdens to the Him, He will sustain you.

True praise bubbles up from a joyful heart. Praise is often our response to some action that directly benefits us, and we feel generous to reciprocate it. When God has blessed us, helped us, and protected us, we feel generous toward Him. We can sing, worship, and talk about how good He is because we can see it. That kind of praise does not require anything of us, it is not a sacrifice.

❖  Psa. 145:2 Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

Then, there are times when God did not come through the way we thought He would. The medical test came back positive. Your family life may be in disarray. A wayward child is being disobedient. A companion is struggling with addiction or a spouse is wanting a divorce. What do you do when God seems far away? How do you feel when circumstances scream that He has forgotten you? To praise God during these times requires a personal sacrifice.

❖  Deut. 10:21 He is thy praise, and He is thy God, and hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.

In fact, the sacrifices of a broken and a contrite heart, God will not despise. He sees your hardship and He understands what you have been through. Sacrifice carries the meaning of suffering or enduring hardship, in order to fulfill a duty. For instance, a mother sacrificing her own needs to care for her children, endures hardship with a purpose in mind. Praising God in hard times doesn’t minimize or deny heaviness of heart and what we feel. Instead, it redirects our focus on who God is. He never changes. He promised to never leave or abandon His children, so we can count on His presence even when our emotions can’t confirm it. This becomes A sound; a personal battle cry that attracts God’s attention through our worship.

❖  Luke 1:49 For He that is mighty have done to me great things; and holy is His name.

Praise, on the other hand, carries a positive connotation of encouragement, appreciation, and joy. True joy and feelings of peace do not originate in us, but through the gifts of the Spirit, obtained through God’s grace (Eph.3:20). He is a sun and shield, the Lord gives grace and glory, no good thing will He withhold from them that walk upright. Let our hearts rejoice, as we seek His presence. Sing to God while you live. Meditate on Him. Ponder in His presence. Despite your feelings and circumstances, choose to be glad in the Lord.

Satan all too often uses people to accomplish his wicked agenda. It is so important to have strong faith through the best and worst of times so when the winds blow, we will not be moved. Will you praise Him during your darkest hour? Trials and hard times come to soften our hearts. Allowing us to rest in the comfort and provision, only He can provide.

❖  Psa. 63:4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.

Think of all the miraculous things God has done before. He stretched out the Heavens like a curtain. Laying the chambers of water and using the cloud as His chariot. The same God who walks on the wings of the wind, is mindful of you. He created the spirits of angels and His ministers as a flaming sword. The same God who laid the foundation of the Earth...thinks of you. He cares about your personal sacrifices. He cares about your wellbeing (Psa. 104: 1-5).

❖  Matt. 22:35-38 ...(37) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Sacrifice requires surrender. American spiritual mentor, A. W. Tozer states, The reason why many are still troubled, still seeking, still making little forward progress is because they have yet come to the end of themselves. We’re still trying to give orders and interfering with God’s work within us. Surrender is often a result of suffering. Suffering pulls at our heart strings and causes us to reflect. God’s echo throughout eternity can be heard in our daily interactions with others and in our walk with Him.  The melody of your thoughts can be reflected through the habits you portray and values you deem important. What you believe manifests in your actions and in your praise.

Do you really love God with all your heart, your soul, and your mind? After you have suffered awhile, He promises to establish, strengthen, and settle you (1 Pet. 5:10). Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings. Ask God to reveal Himself to you. Seek wisdom through His Word and listen. He gives songs in the night (Job 35:10). It is our sacred duty to honor God with our lips, to stand in awe of His sovereignty. To let our faith rest in His power.

❖  Rev 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

    ––––––––

❖  Rev. 19:1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in Heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, glory, and honour, and power unto the Lord our God.

Prioritize hearing His voice and He will make Himself known unto you. It is given to the church, to know the mysteries and the power of God. Allow your mind to be gripped by the truths found in the Bible. Be amazed by His grace. Look in wonder as He works on your behalf. To continually praise the Lord, means to weave worship into every part of our lives. Worship Him at the board meeting. Worship Him at the court hearing. Worship on your job. Worship in school. Worship in your car, in the store and in your homes. We should be radically God-centered in our worship.

❖  Psa. 68:19 "Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth
