Introduction
If you have not heard of CBD oil, then you are undoubtedly living under a rock. CBD is the hottest big thing in the health and wellness sector, with everybody from health specialists to celebrities recommending its use.
Controversial as it may be, the CBD acceptance wave has gained amplified traction all over the world. You can find tons of CBD oil products in the mainstream market, such as lip balms, cosmetics, CBD vaping cartridges, and even tinctures.
There are a number of reasons why CBD is growing in popularity. Amidst an opioid crisis worldwide, people are looking for nontoxic substitutes for highly addicting opioids when it comes to treating chronic and acute pain.
Over-the-counter pain medicines mostly comprise nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil), and naproxen (Alleve). Such medications are not always effective and may have serious side effects when consumed for a long time or misused. Detrimental side effects consist of stomach bleeding, liver damage, ulcers, and stomach lining impairment.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally befalling compound that comes from the resinous flower of cannabis. This plant has a rich history in the medical industry as it goes back thousands of years. Nowadays, the therapeutic properties of CBD are being substantiated and confirmed by doctors and scientists around the world. It is a safe, non-addictive element and is one of more than a hundred phytocannabinoids.
These are exclusive to cannabis and bestow the plant with its healthy healing profile.
CBD is closely linked to another significant therapeutically active phytocannabinoid: called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It is a compound that causes the high,
which is what cannabis is celebrated for. These are the two constituents of cannabis that have been investigated by scientists the most.
What is the Difference between THC and CBD?
Both THC and CBD have noteworthy healing attributes. However, unlike THC, CBD doesn't make an individual feel stoned
or intoxicated. The two compounds act differently when interacting with diverse kinds of receptors in the body and the brain.
CBD can essentially reduce or counterbalance the psychoactive properties of THC, contingent upon how much of each element is ingested. Majority of individuals want the health advantages of cannabis minus the high – or with potentially less of a high. Given that CBD is medicinally potent, non-intoxicating, and simple to use as a CBD oil, it makes this an attractive treatment alternative for those who are careful about attempting the use of cannabis for the first time.
Even though broad research has not been conducted on the substance, some of the latest scientific investigations suggest that CBD oil has enormous potential in handling or treating an assortment of chronic illnesses, including depression, epilepsy, cancer, migraines, anxiety, and stress.
History of CBD
The introduction of CBD oil started thousands of years ago; however, it became popular when medical marijuana became legal. The earliest record of cannabis use appears in ancient China around 6000 B.C., soon after human civilization ascended; however, the most direct indication of cannabis consumption for wellness started to appear about 2700 B.C.
In 2737 B.C., as documented in the earliest editions of the Pen Ts’ao Ching, Chinese ruler Shen-Nung consumed cannabis in teas and topical ointments. With time, human civilization progressed, and writings revealed the advantages of hemp started to appear. The consumption of cannabis extracts showed in the second century seen in the writings of Hua Tuo.
Then around A.D. 77, the Romans started utilizing hemp expansively in the therapeutic arts. Writings from that time show that cannabis extract is valuable for relieving anxiety, discomfort, and even stress. Its use was also found in India, and Egyptians also wrote formulations for cannabis remedies.
In the sixteenth century, cannabis was harvested all over Europe. It became so useful to the community that, in 1533, Henry VIII made all planters grow hemp. In the 1600s, the cultivation of cannabis came to North American colonies. Some of the colonies legalized the cultivation of hemp by farmers.
A prevalent medical text is known as the Anatomy of Melancholy,
inscribed by Robert Burton, stated that hemp extract was valuable to enhance moods. By the eighteenth century, hemp's consumption was acknowledged in Edinburgh New Dispensatory
and The New England Dispensatory
- two exceedingly esteemed pharmacopeias of that time.
As the industrial age was rising, a surgeon called W. B. O'Shaughnessy started to praise the qualities of hemp in the American Southwest. He conducted experiments to define CBD extracts’ effects on humans and animals suffering from cholera, rheumatic diseases, hydrophobia, and tetanus.
William Osler, an advocate for the medical use of cannabis, said that this is a good treatment for migraines in the 19th century. In 1928, cannabis was made
