About this ebook

"And when you are alone, burn it. It’s my most important work, and means the destruction of humankind".

These are the words that Dr. Albert Einstein confessed to Linda Donovan on the 18th of April, 1955.

Linda was one of the nurses at Princeton Hospital who assisted him shortly before he died.

Dr. Einstein’s confession destined, in the summer of August of 2003 to bring Adam Black, a Princeton University professor and his brother in law, a priest known as Father Daniel, many problems and unforeseen repercussions.

They are inexorably drawn into a plot of secrets, persecution and power.

Not only are the high echelons of government and FBI involved, but unbeknown to them, they have the fate of all humanity in their hands.

What motivated the most famous scientist in the world to hide a secret of such magnitude?

    (1955)

    PRINCETON HOSPITAL / MORNING

    It’s April 18, 1955.

A doctor is conducting a press conference at the entrance of the hospital. All journalists and photographers are gathered.

    DOCTOR

    Today April 18, 1955,

    Princeton Hospital would like

    to announce the death

    of Dr. Albert Einstein.

His heart stopped beating at 1:16 a.m.

    The cause was a rupture

    of an aortic aneurysm.

    The medical staff present here,

did their best to save his life.

    But the advanced

    stage of the damage and

    Einstein’s own decision precluded

    these dire consequences...

HOSPITAL LOUNGE - PRINCETON HOSPITAL/ MORNING

Three men are standing in an empty room of the hospital. A physician, DR. KINGSLEY and two FBI agents; Agent THOMAS MURSHELL and agent JACOB SANDERS are waiting for the nurse LINDA DONOVAN. She walks into the room.

    DR. KINGSLEY

These are agents Murshell and Sanders.

And as you very well know,

they are interrogating the nursing staff that treated

Dr. Einstein shortly before his death.

The agents and the nurse greet each other.

    AGENT THOMAS MURSHELL

Right, the reason why we are here Miss Donovan,

is to know how Professor Einstein

was behaving in the hours and days before his death.

    LINDA DONOVAN

    Behavior? I don’t understand.

    AGENT THOMAS MURSHELL

    Yes, we have received information

that Einstein was not in a right state of mind

these last few days and had frequent

    delusions and in several occasions,

he kept on reciting physics or mathematical formulas.

    LINDA DONOVAN

    Yes, that’s true.

Dr. Einstein reached an advanced stage

of delirium in the last hours,

but I still don't know how I can help you.

    AGENT THOMAS MURSHELL

    Well, according to Dr. Kingsley,

you were the nurse that had the most contact

with the professor and we’d like to know

    if Einstein told you something

that you think might compromise you.

The nurse looks at them without knowing exactly what they’re trying to say.

    AGENT JACOB SANDERS

    Excuse me Dr. Kingsley,

would you mind if we had a chat alone

with Miss Donovan for a moment?

    Dr. Kingsley leaves very gently.

    AGENT THOMAS MURSHELL

You see Miss Donovan, your workmate, nurse Sanders,

who was also assisting Professor Einstein last night,

    told us that Professor Einstein

    whispered a few words

to you just before he died.

    LINDA DONOVAN

    Yes, he whispered something

but in German and I could not

    understand what he was saying.

    AGENT THOMAS MURSHELL

    Can you remember a word?

    LINDA DONOVAN

    I’m sorry. I don’t speak German.

As I said, Dr. Einstein had reached

    an advanced stage of delirium.

    AGENT THOMAS MURSHELL

    Isn’t there a single word

    that you can remember?

    LINDA DONOVAN

    (very serious)

    I’ve already told you.

    I don’t speak German.

    AGENT JACOB SANDERS

Miss Donovan, let me tell you

    how serious this situation is.

Dr. Albert Einstein is under an FBI

    investigation for national security.

    If we find some evidence

that you are hiding or omitting information...

    LINDA DONOVAN

    (surprised)

    Are you threatening me?

    AGENT JACOB SANDERS

    (smiles)

We are only questioning you Miss Donovan.

So I’ll ask you one more time.

Is there any information Albert Einstein

whispered to you before he died?

    LINDA DONOVAN

    No.

The agents look at each other in a serious way. Linda keeps her composure.

    AGENT THOMAS MURSHELL

    Don’t forget not to talk

    about this to anyone.

    Have a good day.

ENTRANCE - PRINCETON HOSPITAL / EVENING

A few hours have passed. Linda Donovan says goodbye to her workmates and leaves Princeton Hospital. She heads to her car.

    ENTRANCE - PRINCETON UNIVERSITY/ EVENING

The nurse parks her car at the university parking lot. She gets out of the car and looks around. Nobody’s following her. She walks quickly towards the entrance hall of the university.

INT. FIRESTON LIBRARY - PRINCETON UNIVERSITY / EVENING

Linda walks into the library and asks for the shelf where the philosophy books are. Linda goes to a specific shelf and finds the book Isis Unveiled. She turns left and walks a few steps to a free standing shelf. She gets a nail file out of her bag and lifts the shelf. Linda remembers the words of Professor Einstein.

    EINSTEIN

Sie haben, um das Buch zu zerstören.

Alle meine Arbeit ist es geschrieben.

    Ich konnte nicht zu zerstören.

    LINDA DONOVAN

    Dr. Einstein, everything’s fine.

    Don’t worry.

    EINSTEIN

    Sie haben, um das

    Buch zu zerstören.

    LINDA DONOVAN

Dr. Einstein, I don’t speak German.

    Everything’s all right. Calm down.

    EINSTEIN

    (agonizing)

    You have to destroy it.

    Burn it please.

    LINDA DONOVAN

    Shhh... Calm down.

    EINSTEIN

    Listen...

    LINDA DONOVAN

    Try to get some rest.

    EINSTEIN

    (angry and agonizing)

Listen to me! It’s at the university.

    In Firestone Library.

You have to go and find the book Isis Unveiled.

When you find that shelf, turn left and walk seven steps.

    You’ll see...you’ll see a free standing shelf.

Lift it up and get it.

    And...(sobbing) once you’re all alone...Burn it.

    LINDA DONOVAN

    What is it?

    EINSTEIN

    (hardly breathing)

    My greatest work and

    mankind’s destruction.

Linda Donovan finds a black notebook wrapped in a piece of cloth. The notebook is full of physics formulas and notes. Inside the notebook, there is an open envelope with a letter inside. It’s addressed to Albert Einstein.

    PARKING - PRINCETON UNIVERSITY/ NIGHT

Linda dashes out of the library. She heads back to her car. She gets in and tries to start the engine. Somebody knocks on her car window. Linda recognizes the person and puts the window down. It’s agent Thomas Murshell.

    AGENT THOMAS MURSHELL

    I warned you.

    LINDA DONOVAN

    What?

The agent points the gun at Linda’s chest and shoots her twice. The gun has a silencer on and the shot is not heard. Linda’s head drops on the steering wheel. She’s dead. The FBI agent opens the door of the car and searches her car interior, her body and her bag. He finds Einstein’s black notebook wrapped in a piece of cloth in her coat. He puts it in a plastic bag and seals it. Her bag drops on the ground.

FBI CAR - PRINCETON UNIVERSITY / NIGHT

Agent Thomas Murshell gets in the car. Agent Jacob Sanders is on the driver’s seat.

    AGENT JACOB SANDERS

    (smoking)

    And so?

    AGENT THOMAS MURSHELL

    A notebook with formulas and

    a letter addressed to Einstein.

    AGENT JACOB SANDERS

    (in a rush)

    Damn liar.

We have to take this to Major right now.

Agent Sanders gets his hand out of the car window and
