    INTRODUCTION

How huge is the issue ?

A tough boss is the biggest hurdle most employees face in their professional life. The unmanaged effects of a daily encounter can wreak havoc on a person's career, worth, health, and general well-being. We will, however, examine two aspects: health and economic consequences.

There is hardly a stronger and more pervasive stressor in the workplace than a difficult boss. A recent study by Mental Health America found that employment problems were the third most common source of stress in American life. SkillSoft, a leader in online learning, commissioned a third-party research to review ten top stressors and irritants at work. Six of the ten irritants are; managers who abruptly change what they want, lack of management support, pressure from superiors, feeling put upon by managers, management interruptions, and management harassment - are related to the action or behavior of the boss. All of these problems can be resolved in a healthy relationship with an effective manager.

ii. Chronic stress can double the risk of a heart attack.

iii. Chronic stress weakens the immune system and makes people vulnerable to many diseases.

iv. 50-80% of every medical issue that is reported to doctors have a strong emotional or stress-related component.

In short, a difficult boss is a source of a high level of stress, and years, if not months, of ineffective management of the relationship with him or her, can seriously affect a person's health.

The impact of a difficult manager on an organization is just as great. In their review of two Gallup Organization studies, Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman suggest that companies look to their managers first when they have problems with their bottom line. The relationship with a problematic boss is the main reason why employees leave their employment. Turnover costs are estimated to be between 20 to 50% of the total remuneration for a post. This allows organizations to measure the direct effect of a difficult boss on the bottom line.

Stress is, among other things, a causal and catalytic factor in mental illness. Neuroscientists at the Mclean Hospital and the Harvard Medical School have shown that long-term exposure to stress hormones such as corticotropin and
