    Prologue

    The violins rose to a flash of brown hands strumming a classical guitar. Across some broken Spanish steps, a Mariachi band playing Towne’s song.

    Livin on the road my friend / Is gonna keep you free and clean And now you wear your skin like iron / And your breath is hard as kerosene /

    Silver tipped ends of a collar. A singer dressed all in black. Fitted embroidered shirt. Bolo tie, cowboy buttons and boots. Complete with a belt buckle of a broncing buck flashed, down to his silver spurs. All pressed bright as if newly minted from fresh Comstock silver. His Bolero hung low as he raised his head, one part storyteller, one part spectre, singing on a lonely stretch of Arizona road as if indeed, he were a mirage.

    Weren't your momma's only boy / But her favourite one it seemed / She began to cry when you said good-bye /

    Old chromatic photos. Lefty as a southern boy. Flashed forward as he quickly grew up. Laughing, Lefty a twinkle in his eye, optimistic, sitting on the passenger side of a Saleen Mustang. Enjoying the good times.

    Lefty, kissing her good-bye. His momma.

    Sank into your dreams /
