About this ebook

Receiving the Promises of God chronicles a ten-year struggle the author endured after he received a specific promise from God in February 1999: to replace everything he had lost. At the time of the promise, he had only lost his job. However, by January 2008, he had lost everything and was close to being evicted from his apartment.

    Dedication

To my wife, Carmaleta: You have given me your full and loving support through this entire process and have been my biggest cheerleader. God has blessed me to be your husband. You are a very important part of whom I am, and I am thankful you are in my life. We share a common bond in the Love of Jesus Christ and in everything we do. And for that I am grateful you are my wife.

    Declaration

Father in heaven, I declare that before the reader turns to the next page of this book, You will instill in their hearts and minds the desire to receive the promise You have given them. I, therefore, pray, as Paul prayed for the Ephesians, …to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask Him to strengthen you by His Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite Him in. And I ask Him that with both feet planted firmly in love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God. God can do anything, as you know, and far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working to put His Spirit deeply and gently within us. (Ephesians 3:14-21- MSG)

Further, my declaration is that you will believe and receive the promises that God has expressly given to you for your success in this life. But mostly, I pray that you possess a thankful heart for what the Lord has already done for you.

    In Jesus’ name,

    AMEN!

    Foreword

Romans 10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.

Hebrews 11:6: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The simple fact that you have chosen to read Otis Felton’s book, Receiving the Promises of God, shows that you are a seeker of God. Also, like Otis, you’re probably one who is not willing to settle for anything less than all Jesus provided.

Personally, I’ve always enjoyed reading books that are not only full of truth but also give you a glimpse behind the scenes—letting you see the inside story. Otis has accomplished just that. He takes you on a journey proving that, despite crushing circumstances and difficult seasons, faith wins, and persistence pays.

In the Scriptures, we are admonished to follow those who through faith and patience obtain promises. This man’s amazing story of restoration will enable you to do just that. Otis will challenge you to never quit, to never surrender to mediocrity, but to win again and again!

    Preface

After publishing Receiving the Promises of God in March of 2016, many people told me how awestruck they were with my testimony. I must admit that it is a compelling testimony. The Lord blessed my faithfulness, and I want to pay my blessings forward to make an even more of an impact for the Kingdom of God. For this reason, I decided to expand Receiving the Promises of God into a Second Edition. I see this as my spiritual contribution to the work of the Holy Sp irit.

God’s promises are for everyone. And we know that everyone experiences various types of trials. What we must recognize, however, is that even when the Lord helps us through one trial, we are guaranteed to enter another one (financial, relationship, family, sickness, etc.) at some point in time. That is a fact of our earthly life. And regardless of the miracles God performs for us to get through one trial, we cannot relax; we must continue to trust Him when we encounter another one. However, as we look back on the miracles of God in our lives and the lives of others, we can be encouraged to withstand future problems. We must keep our faith in God and learn the lessons that He is teaching us, and how to apply His teaching to live an abundant life.

As I thought more on this, I decided to publish a second edition because I wanted it to be more than just my testimony of God’s love and goodness. Yes! The Lord has tremendously blessed me, but I had to apply His Word to my situation and receive by faith before I saw the results. I, therefore, wish for my blessings to be even more of an encouragement to you by adding a short exercise to the end of each chapter that I call, Questions to Ponder.

As you read Receiving the Promises of God, be thinking about a situation you are currently facing, complete the exercises, and hopefully, you will be able to apply the same principles of faith and trust to overcome. I encourage you to use this book as a devotional tool or workbook to help you in your trials. Regardless of what you may be dealing with: sickness, finances, relationship, etc., God is the God of miracles and His Word is there for you. His Word is not a lie and it will benefit you if applied daily with faith. This second edition will give you much more of God’s Word, and it should help you with applying the principles of faith to receive His promise. It doesn’t matter what phase of life or the situation you find yourself in, diligently using the Word of God will help you overcome, but it’s up to you to apply His Word. He has already promised to never leave us or forsake us, and He has given us everything we need to overcome.

G od has blessed my life. And so many of my friends and loved ones have also blessed me. Many of them may not be aware of how much of a blessing they have been t o me.

I am grateful for their love, friendship, and biblical teaching. But first, I am thankful to the Lord for His love, grace, mercies, and unmerited favor. I am thankful to Him for not leaving me or forsaking me. I am grateful that the Lord even made my mistakes to prosper. I am thankful to the following:

Carmaleta Felton, my wife, for her loving dedication, support, encouragement, and editorial assistance with my book.

Arthur and Bessie Felton, my mother and father, for my Christian foundation training and the love they forged in our family. I know you are roaming around heaven
