    Chapter One

    I’d been seeing this guy at work since the first day I’d started my new job. I mean that in the truest sense, not as in ‘dating’. I noticed him right off because he was good looking, around my favorite age group—mid 20 to mid 30—no ring on the finger, or discoloration—built very nice—or at least he wore a suit really well.

    He was neat and clean cut.

    I was drawn to neat and clean cut because I was just naturally a slob and opposites attract.

    It wasn’t that I didn’t give a shit about my looks. Au contraire! I cared a lot. I worked out five days a week. I dieted at least once a month to knock off the five pounds I gained every month like clockwork. I bathed. I even wore a little makeup—not much because I always felt like I was suffocating if I put too much on and I just couldn’t fucking keep it where it was supposed to be.

    I mean—if I put on mascara, I just had to rub my eyes—because they itched and then I had raccoon eyes. Eye shadow, ditto.
