SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR TEAM
Mary Chris Foxworthy, Research Writer
Mary Chris Foxworthy's grandfather owned one of the last creameries in the United States that still used horse-drawn milk wagons; thus began a life-long love affair with horses. After graduating from college with a degree in Food Science and Communications, Mary Chris bought her first horse with her first paycheck. After graduation she worked in Marketing and Finance in the corporate world. During that time, she volunteered her Marketing and Fundraising skills for various non-profits and finally in 2006 left the corporate world to work in the area of Advancement until her retirement in 2016. She has served on the board of various equine associations and held a judge’s card in Carriage Driving. She has published and presented numerous equine educational programs, written for several equine publications and won an award from American Horse Publications for one of her articles. Mary Chris is an active exhibitor in Carriage Driving and Dressage. Along with her husband, she enjoys spending time with their horses (three Morgans and a PRE), a bouncing Bearded Collie and two adult children."

Abby David, Graphic Designer
Abby David's family has roots in the Walking Horse tradition and she grew up hearing tales of Ole Tobe the mule's antics, holiday wagon decorations, and trick riding. In her teens she spent her summers boarding the neighbors horses and playing at barrel racing in the back paddock with Thunder (pictured). She landed a job as a Graphic Designer at The Arts Center of Cannon County in 2004 and has worked in the print and digital mass communications industry continuously. Since marrying into a family in the racehorse business, she has enjoyed exploring a whole new world of horses and wearing big fancy hats. She also enjoys dancing in all it’s forms and teaches in her local community.

Horse Crazy!
Many little girls grow up thinking about horses 24 -7. They read about horses, they watch movies about horses, they play with Breyer® horses and, if they are lucky enough, they even get to ride horses.
These horse crazy girls often grow up to become competent horse women. Ninety percent of horse owners in the United States today are women. Some are authors, some are trainers, some are accomplished equestrians and some are simply backyard enthusiasts. They often share their love of horses with the next generation of horse crazy little girls.
From Deities to Olympians, join us and meet some of the most iconic horse women throughout the ages. As we meet famous women through the ages, we’ll also explore the special bond that women have with horses and gain an insight into how and why this bond develops.
Along the way, you may learn why you have a special bond with horses too and....you may even see yourself as a Warrior Woman or a Trendsetter!
When you finish the book, we have left some room for you to journal about your horse experience or write about a friend and then gift the book to them.

Lady, a grade horse, was Gloria Austin’s second horse which she used for pole bending, flag racing, and barrel racing. Lady was younger and far more agile than Duke.

Warrior Women
Wonder Woman, Super Girl and Cat Woman are all comic book super heroines who perform marvelous feats to save the world from evil forces. History, however, provides us with real-life heroines who truly performed amazing deeds. These heroines did not have comic book super powers. They had something even more valuable in their quests. They had horses!

Zenobia
Zenobia was born in Palmyra, Syria sometime around 240 AD. Syria was at this time a Roman province.
According to the Arabic version of her story, told by Al-Tabari, she was placed in charge of the family flocks and shepherds when she was a young girl and thereby grew used to controlling large groups. Al-Tabari also claims that this is when she became adept at riding horses and learned the endurance and stamina that made her famous. She was married to Odaenathus, the king of
