To those who supported me during my
own dark times, may everyone benefit from your love through the words in this book.

No man ever stands alone. This book and the insights shared wouldn’t exist without the work and support of many others.
Much of my shift in perspective over the last 10 years has come from the support and work of my coach and friend, Divya Darling, along with the incredible work of Byron Katie.
Also, without my amazing team at Automation Agency I wouldn’t have been able to step away from the business long enough to go on the personal journey of discovery needed to truly embody this work in my own life and then sit down and actually write this book.
I must also acknowledge Mari, who randomly asked me what I would do differently if I knew my life would end in 12 months. Without your question, this book probably wouldn’t exist.
To my amazing friends and family, I want to acknowledge you too. You are absolute inspirations to me. Our conversations helped me clarify my thoughts and message, and I’m truly grateful to have you in my life.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge you for deciding to pick up this book and read it. That in itself takes courage and a certain strength of character. It shows you value growth and learning. I am humbled and honoured to be able to share some of my journey with you.

Prologue
Who’s your favourite superhero?
For me it’s always been Superman.
Maybe that’s because I thought my parents had just misspelled my name and I was actually Kal-El (that’s Superman’s real name) not Carl. More likely, it’s because he represented something deeper to my core.
Superman has always been my favourite, not because he can fly or because he has x-ray vision, but because of his incredible strength, resilience and the fact that he’s physically bulletproof; literally the bullets just bounce right off him.
He knows who he is and what he stands for and he doesn’t compromise.
Plus, he’s one of the few superheroes that was born this way. He didn’t become super due to an accident, a spider bite or expensive tech, he’s just being himself.
He has the power to rule the world but chooses to contribute to it instead.
It’s actually frail, geeky, awkward Clark Kent that is the disguise.
I think this is what drew me most to Superman. Especially as a teenager, when I was awkward and geeky and yet I knew that was just a disguise, not the real me, where I longed to discover and show the world my Superman side.
What about you? Were you the awkward kid? The popular kid? The athletic kid? The nerdy kid?
What label did you identify with? What labels did others put on you? These labels (both internal and external) are often what we use to hide the truth of who we really are.
We hold back our own natural gifts and try to fit in with society. We desperately seek to blend in. Even those who look like they are trying to stand out are really just trying to fit in based on the disguises they’re wearing.
This is something to think about as we move through this book together.
Today as I write this, I have to smile at my full-circle journey.
An entire decade has passed since I wrote my first book Red Means Go! where I sat in a red chair at my parents’ house over Christmas 2009 and wrote the entire book in 5 days.
Now here I am, sitting in that same red chair, back at my parents’ place writing Becoming Bulletproof the week before Christmas 2019.
My goal with this book is to open your eyes to the truth that has always been in front of you. To unlock within you the strength, courage, resilience and mental toughness of Superman. To have you tap into parts of yourself you’ve lost and forgotten along the way, or maybe you haven’t yet discovered.
It’s going to be a wild journey together. Some of it might excite you, some of it might scare you and other times you might be thinking, What has he been smoking?
Just go with it and enjoy the ride.
I’ve purposely kept this book short. Far too many people buy books and don’t read them. I don’t want the length of the book to be a deterrent to you upgrading your thinking and your life. It’s just
