    Acknowledgments

I was raised by my great aunt on my mother’s side of the family. She only had a fifth-grade education and grew up during the depression. My parents were having a difficult time in their marriage and somehow we ended up in the foster care system. My aunt convinced my father to get the four of us and let her raise us. Although she could barely read and write, she encouraged us to pursue education. On Friday nights she would make us read to her; first the newspaper, then the Bible. My aunt used to tell us life stories that would always end with, Say your prayers and read your Bible! I owe my life to her for getting us out of a corrupt and failing system.

There are so many people I want to thank who were instrumental in making an impact on my life. If I fail to mention you, please charge it to my head and not my heart. I would like to thank the vice principal of my old high school, Anthony Leone at McKinley High. When I wanted to quit, drop out of school because of all the issues going on in my life, he went above and beyond his realm of responsibilities to make sure I was safe, had a place to live, and ate every day.

I want to thank Mrs. Jenkins from Emmanuel Temple Holiness Church for birthing me into the Kingdom in that prayer room. She stayed with me until I received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Every time I tried to fake it or speed up the process, Mother Jenkins would say, Baby you don’t have it yet! Come back on Friday night. Then Mother Jenkins would lay hands on me and rebuke the devil off my life. We need more people like Mother Jenkins today!

I would like to thank so many others who contributed to my Christian walk: Pastor Betty Lewis, Minister Valerie Jackson, Sister Darnell Norman, Bishop Leroy Anderson, Bishop Curry, Mother Curry, Bishop Evelyn Parmer, Apostle John Eckhardt, Apostle Kimberly Daniels, Apostle Charles Rivers (my husband), Apostle Sharon Billins, Bishop Jacqueline Foye, Apostle Claire Revealed, and Pastor Valerie Foye.

I especially want to thank all my enemies: I love you because you helped push me into my purpose. I believe everybody needs a Judas so that you can press on to victory! I want to thank my children because they kept the fire under my feet to keep writing until this book was done. I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because I am nothing without Him!

    Introduction

    Dear Reader,

The desire to write this book, and several others that are to be written, stems from the many trials and tests I have encountered. Many people would tell me I should write a book especially when I would share my testimony regarding warfare and the various ways God would bring me out. All my life I had to fight! This is the same line that was used by Oprah in the movie The Color Purple. My warfare began in my childhood. The devil tried to take me out as a child long before I came to know Jesus. I struggled because I did not know what I was fighting, why I had to fight, or even how to win the fight. This book that you hold in your hands was written for the sole purpose to help you develop and grow your prayer life. I felt the need to get this message out because of the times we are in and the current state of the church.

Many who are called by God to join an army of prayer warriors are fearless, much like the men who surrounded King David. This book will perhaps answer some of the many questions about what is happening to you. It is unfortunate that some ministries are not equipping and training people to be soldiers. It is more tragic that some are teaching spiritual warfare but only staying on the surface. The devil has stepped up his attack on the church and the saints of God. It is therefore necessary for God to step up his methods for the church to remain victorious. Read and re-read this book. Let it become your go-to manual as we all engage in this warfare.

    Chapter One: Why Pray?

Prayer to some is a bad word. It is the most talked about, most taught on, but the least acted on. I have attended many conferences, workshops, and seminars on prayer. There is always some good information, but never any real bare-bones information on how to
