So, let's dive right in and learn about one of the most talented, talked about, and fascinating players in the NBA today.
Chapter 1: Who is Kyrie Irving?
Kyrie Irving is one of the most well-known NBA players for some of the incredible things he does on the court and some of the controversial things that he does off of it.
But there is so much more to Irving than just his basketball prowess. In this chapter, I will talk you through some of Kyrie's main aspects that make him who he is, before touching on each of these points and more in more detail in the following chapters.
Who Is Kyrie Irving?
Born in 1992, Kyrie Irving originates from Melbourne, Australia, and quickly rose to prominence for being a high school basketball superstar. He later played one injury-affected, yet successful, season at Duke University, before being the Cleveland Cavaliers number one pick in the NBA draft back in 2011.
In the 2016-2017 season, he partnered up with LeBron James at the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the pair took the franchise to its first-ever NBA Championship. As well as being known as a prolific scorer on the court, Irving is also famous for his starring role in the Uncle Drew
commercials and subsequent movie, as well as making some rather controversial comments about his teammates and his beliefs on the earth being flat.
After playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers for six successful seasons, he moved the Boston Celtics under a slightly dark cloud, before making an even more controversial move to the Brooklyn Nets in 2019, after two injury-laden and underwhelming seasons with the Celtics.
High School Star & Duke University
After playing at a high level himself, Irving's father, Drederick Irving, ultimately settled in West Orange, New Jersey. From a young age, he often brought Kyrie with him to the pickup basketball matches he played in.
Having played the sport and been around basketball from a very young age, Kyrie quickly became a star at the local high school, Montclair Kimberley Academy. Not a well-known basketball school, he then moved to St. Patrick, where he won a state championship and many other individual accolades.
He went on to play for Duke University, becoming one of the few freshman point guards to play under Mike Krzyzewski, a famous college basketball coach. He started brightly, but a foot injury ultimately kept
