    Introduction

Do you ever wonder why nothing ever seems to bother some people? Nothing fazes them, and the problems they face don’t seem to concern them. They never appear worried and let everything roll off their back. When any situation presents itself¬—big or small—they remain unchanged, unmoved, and unshaken. While you might be freaking out about the smallest details and everyday troubles; the bills, the boss, your spouse, the kids, work deadlines, the haters, etc., they seem to be coasting through life without a care in the world.

I used to be one of those anxious people—constantly worried, having doubts about everything. I suffered from low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression during my adolescent and teen years. My mother even took me to a doctor when I was seventeen years old after I had run away from home, but even my doctor could not determine the source of my depression, so I never went back. It wasn’t until my mid-twenties when I discovered the source of all my worries.

Once I found the cure, I became confident and found peace, joy, great success in my career, a loving marriage, beautiful children, and I can go on. I felt like I could conquer the world; no problem was too big to face. My life made a complete 180-degree turn. People started asking, wow, Pam; nothing seems to bother you much. Always even-keel. What’s your secret? My answer, Oh, you know. That’s just how I am, I guess. A complete lie! The truth is, I do have a secret recipe for how to succeed and overcome all obstacles while remaining at peace. I just wasn’t ready to reveal this to anyone; until now.

I know what you’re thinking, Oh, great. Another self-help book. Before you put the book down, let me say, you couldn’t be more wrong. We’ve all heard the famous quote, God helps those who help themselves. I challenge you to find that verse in the Bible. Don’t waste your time. It’s not there.

In fact, let me congratulate you on reading your first you-can’t-help-yourself book. Self-help books often claim to have the answers to some of life’s deepest questions: What is the secret to fulfilling your highest potential, reaching your goals, and excelling beyond measure? How does one find true happiness, confidence, peace, love, and joy? How do we deal with fears, anxieties, and worry? Or, what is the true meaning and purpose of life?

Sorry to disappoint, but you will never find the truth in any self-help book. The truth lies in one name and one name only, and that name is Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. In this book, you will learn my secret recipe on how to S.T.O.P.P.P. and Do Nothing Else to conquer every battle. I will use biblical stories and real-life testimonies of people who gained victory after overcoming painful hardships to show how this works.

By Surrendering, Trusting, and Obeying God; Prayerfully, Peacefully and Patiently, you will learn the tools you need to succeed and excel beyond your wildest imagination. You will destroy fear, worry, doubt, and anxiety. I challenge you to use this principle for thirty days, and I promise you will never look back. If you’re ready to go through a journey of victory, let’s do this!

    CHAPTER 1

    Jesus is the Cure

When life hits hard, with unexpected twists and turns, some grab a bottle, but I grab my Bible. I get intoxicated with the love of Christ in my heart and get filled with the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). The coping mechanisms some use from this world can be addictive and lead to even more problems later. But Christ’s medicine has no adverse effects.

Every drug, alcoholic beverage, or any other chemical used to ease anxiety have only temporary benefits, but the consequences of the habitual usage of these toxins can often be lifelong and devastating. This temporary high will wear off eventually, and then you’ll need another fix to get through the next episode. When the woman at the well encountered Jesus, He said to her and us all:

If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water. But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket, she said, and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water? And besides, do you think you’re greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed? Jesus replied, Anyone who drinks this water [from the world] will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give [from Christ] will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life. Please, sir, the woman said, give me this water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to get water.

    John 4:10-15 (NLT)

Once you accept Christ into your heart, you will never thirst for anything more. The root of depression, anxiety, anger, and overall frustration is self-centeredness. Most of us build our lives on what we think, feel, and want.

Most of us do not recognize that God created in us a desire to serve and honor Him. When we center our lives on our own desires rather than His, it leads to disappointment because we are not living out our full potential, which is life built on and rooted in Christ.

If Paul can rejoice in the Lord with excitement while suffering in a dungeon, there’s no reason why any of us can’t have the same joy in any situation. Paul had complete peace over his circumstances because his eyes were on Christ throughout his suffering and not on himself.

Jesus is the only source of complete satisfaction and peace you need; peace that is not dependent on outside factors. Wherever you are, He is with you. He is with you when you are in the middle of traffic and running late for a meeting, or stressing out at work, can’t make a deadline, have no access to your pills or alcohol, and have nowhere to turn for peace. If God is your source of comfort, you can take a drink from His cup and pray right where you are, and He will satisfy.

    S.T.O.P.P.P. for Peace’s Sake

A believer in Christ is one who, while going through a difficult situation that would normally cripple most, refuses to waiver in faith and remains in total peace despite her feelings. That person is not full of anger, losing his mind, or complaining, but surrenders to God’s will. Our peace and joy do not come from our environment. Right before Jesus was going to be crucified, He said to His disciples and us in John 14:27, I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

No matter what the problems are in your life, whether they cause anger, fear, anxiety, worry, doubt, feelings of inadequacy, etc., S.T.O.P.P.P. and Do Nothing Else. Where self-help books go wrong is the authors teach ideas on what you should do to have success in this life, how to meet the right people, and the attitudes you need to adopt to make it big. These methods don’t work because they give the readers a false sense that they can control their surroundings, their circumstances, and their pain if they implement these teachings in their daily lives. We can never predict what roadblocks we will face or oppositions from people that will try to block our progress. When these methods fail, people end up aimlessly looking for new ideas and ways to overcome their disappointments. Life is stressful enough. Doing things God likely did not plan for will only lead to more frustration, anger, resentment, and exhaustion. This is why, no matter how many self-help books you find in bookstores or online, or how many seminars you attend, you will invariably fall right back to your old ways and remain unsatisfied. Sadly, many will return to chemical-numbing mechanisms to deal with stress and anxiety until the next book comes along with new ideas that ultimately lead to failure.

I have met countless people with big dreams and aspirations, hit with something preventing them from reaching higher heights. The excuses I hear far too often include, well, I’m just so busy. I don’t have the time. I don’t have the money. I’m not the right person for something like this. I’m too young. I’m too old. I don’t have the experience. Instead, go to God humbly; Surrendering, Trusting, and Obeying Him, Prayerfully, Peacefully and Patiently. Remove the I can’t, because… phrase from your vocabulary. Whenever you are close to telling yourself that lie, replace it with it is already done, in the name of Jesus.

    It Had to Be God!

When David thought a seventeen-year-old child like himself could murder a giant with a pebble, that was faith. When Moses thought, with a speech disability, he could have a conversation with King Pharaoh and get the Israelites across the Red Sea with an army chasing after them, that was faith. Why would Joseph continue to show godly character when God had revealed to him he would have a high position of power only to be sold into slavery instead? Did he think God’s dream for him to someday become a highly respected official whom everyone would bow to would still come to pass even after being accused of sexual assault and thrown in prison? That was faith.

Our struggles are never a reason to quit. God uses all of our difficulties and challenges to build our character and instill tenacity in us to grow our faith and strengthen our trust in Him. God has a great story already written for your life. You just have to walk right into your destined victory and show the world how amazing our God is.

Having faith is to believe in the impossible. And when you succeed at something no one believed could happen for you, then they’ll know what God can do. How could Joseph be so confident that, though he was the youngest in his family, God would promote him to such a high position that his older brothers would bow someday? Why was Moses so sure God had a plan to get the Israelites on the other side of the Red Sea when Pharaoh’s army was on the way to destroy them? How did David, a child with no experience on the battlefield, know, with confidence, he would murder Goliath, a giant feared by an army of trained soldiers?

David recognized God chose and anointed him so that his life could be used as an example of God’s power, and he accepted his assignment—an assignment all believers in Christ have. His ability to kill Goliath had nothing to do with him but gave us tangible evidence of God’s glory within a child who had nothing else on his side but faith in His mighty Lord. His life is an example of what God can do in anyone, great or small.

God could have easily picked any of David’s older brothers who were already warriors in the battle against the Philistines. However, had any of them murdered Goliath, that brother would have taken credit for the victory and been given a reputation as a war hero, which would have had no power to demonstrate what faith in God looks like. But, for a child with no military experience to, single-handedly, murder a giant everyone else feared with a stone; that had to be God.

When I have a seemingly impossible dream to accomplish something someone like me could never do, I say to myself, that’s exactly why it has to succeed. God always chooses people no one would ever imagine to accomplish His amazing vision. God promises success to people who pursue Him and dedicate their lives to Him.

All these Bible stories are it had to be God testimonies we can use today to encourage us to pursue impossibilities knowing our it had to be God testimony is also coming. He will use these opportunities to test your faith and patience. When you pass your test and win, everyone will say, as we do with David, Joseph, the Israelites at the Red Sea, Peter on the water, and in so many biblical stories, it had to be God.

    Chasing After the Impossible

Well-meaning loved ones will try to help you by encouraging you to quit, so you don’t waste your time and fail. God will use their little faith to test you. The enemy will use them too, to discourage you, hoping you’ll take the bait and fall for his lies. Will you listen to their not-so-sound advice or trust God for humanly impossible dreams?

I don’t know about you, but I’m going with God. I only spend my time on impossible things these days. If it is doable without God, I’m not interested. Why spend my time only doing what normal, average people do every day? No, thank you. I only have one life to live. I’m all in, baby! I’m jumping in with both feet, eyes closed. I’m not asking any questions. God, please take the lead, and I’ll follow. I want to see miracles before I die.

David desired to be king after God already planned for that when He anointed him at his father’s house. It’s not ridiculous that a shepherd kid would want, so badly, to be rid of King Saul, so he can be the next king. God already planted that desire in his heart. So, don’t be shy when you’re praying for something big, as if you’re asking God for something too hard for Him.

When God places His will in your heart, an incredibly big dream, and you have an insatiable appetite to fulfill it, God already knew ahead of time that prayer was coming. He’s just waiting to see if you have enough faith to pray it.

While you’re on your journey to accomplish His will, God will allow the many trials satan is throwing at you to get you off course. Those same trials will constitute the testimony that will eventually bring others to Christ. (Just a side note. I write satan with a small s. It is not a typo. I do that to remind him he has no significance and deserves no respect.)

You can’t fail when your motive is to please God and advance His Kingdom. Don’t give up when things get tough. God guarantees success, and He won’t and can’t lie.

My goal in writing this book is to teach you how to tap into the victory that is already yours through your walk with the Lord and your willingness to say yes and accept God’s awesome plan for you. I have not yet reached forty years of age but have already been blessed with greater success than I have ever actually prayed for strictly doing nothing but following God’s will through this principle.

Victory requires complete obedience to God’s will without wavering. Many of you will disagree with the following statement, but I welcome criticism. I firmly believe we live in a society of people who suffer from depression, anxiety, hopelessness, feelings of being out of control, and extreme anger as a result of their rebellion against God’s Word and His plans. Our circumstances do not weigh us down, but we get knocked down because we disobey the Word of God in how we deal with these circumstances.

Some sources indicate rates of suicide are higher today than during the Great Depression. How can that be? Aren’t we one of the greatest nations in the world? Why do anti-depressant and anti-anxiety drug companies make up a multi-billion-dollar industry? We are not equipped to deal with our burdens. Our way does not work, but we keep trying it and disobeying Christ in the process.

Jesus asks that we allow Him to carry our burdens (Hebrews 11:30), but we refuse, insisting we put out our fires ourselves. We should come to terms with the fact God allows us to go through painful circumstances not so that we fix them ourselves, but rather to draw us closer to Him, to teach us His character, and show the world His glory in the end.

The secret to conquering the enemy’s plan to destroy us is to do life with God, for God, and because of God. Do what only Jesus says to do: His way only. You will be amazed at the incredible blessings God pours out over you for His glory when you Surrender to His will, Trusting in Him only and Obeying His instructions. Stay Prayerful at all times, while remaining in total Peace, and having Patience with God’s timing. Afterward, Do Nothing Else. God’s way is perfect. All the LORD’s promises prove true (Psalm 18:30, NLT).

    CHAPTER 2

The S.T.O.P.P.P. and Do Nothing Else Principle

First, it’s pronounced sto…pah…pah…pah and Do Nothing Else. Every time I feel a worried or depressed thought come on, I go back to this principle and remove it within seconds. For years, I would spend hours upon hours, replaying negative thoughts in my mind, over and over and over. These thoughts would weigh me down and hinder me from moving forward and pursuing goals and dreams. I felt constantly exhausted and defeated.

I have now been practicing this principle for many years, and it has helped me get through every challenge. We all have different ways to cope with the issues we face. Some go to alcohol to get the edge off or unwind. Others need a smoke, or anti-anxiety medications, anti-depressants, sleeping aids, or worse, pain killers, or street drugs to numb the pain.

    What is the S.T.O.P.P.P. and

    Do Nothing Else Principle?

The next time you’re suddenly hit with any problem, big or small, before you rack your brain trying to figure out the quickest exit, S.T.O.P.P.P. and Do Nothing Else about it until God directs you on your next move. When you are becoming depressed, fearful, anxious, angry, disappointed, cynical, regretful, hurt, and out of
