To all of the African American lives that have been taken away due to police brutality, social and economical injustice, and death as a whole. I love you. And pray your families find justice!
Acknowledgments
You, the reader, are the reason I’ve invested in writing this book. Because of you, I felt compelled to write a story that is going to impact so many of our lives. It is my hope that through research, foot work, and dedication, we will continue to fight for ourselves, our families, and our black men and women. Continue to lift your voices, naming those who can no longer speak for themselves. We need change and the only way we will see it is through action. Let’s take back what is rightfully ours!
Preface
2020, as we all know, has been one of the most challenging years we have faced. From January, losing Kobe Bryant his daughter and the other members of that accident, all through COVID-19, we have taken loss after loss. Many of us have lost loved ones, abruptly, as a result. Importantly, we have also lost many lives due to police brutality.
In the first eight months of the year, over 164 black people have been killed by police. While many of these lives have gone unreported widespread, we have heard these names and mourned their deaths more than ever before. We have cried, seen death on live stream, tried to work, battled job loss, suffered due to lack of resources and so much more.
The purpose of this story is not to simply re-tell the story of how many people have died. It is not even to express that BLACK LIVES DO MATTER, but it is to highlight one of the most important societal issues today, MEN NEED PROTECTION. I think that we have become so focused on how they were created to protect us, that we lack the true understanding that even the protector, needs protection. So, in this story, while you read through some of the most impacting cases that have taken place in 2020, remember, this young man is your brother, he’s your son, he’s your spouse… and he too… NEEDS PROTECTION!
