YOU’RE A MAN. A MAN’S Man. You don’t run away when there is a confrontation or a problem to be solved. Everything about you says, you’re ready. You’re confident and undaunted by challenges. When you meet a person that attracts you, it’s not in your character to shy away. Your instincts forge your sensibilities to pursue what attracts you and your tenacity to reach your goals drives you to make your move.

There, standing a few yards away is a beautiful woman. What are you going to do? All those great traits that make you a success at work, or have served you well in sports, or have allowed you to conquer your previous goals can sometimes be misinterpreted as arrogance and become a turn off. Your first goals have to be set.

Not all attractions are equal. You’re bold and aggressive. But this isn’t a football game or a ping pong match. You’re not competing on equal playing fields. Not all people like aggressiveness. Perhaps there is a time and place for your temperament to play out, but first impressions are everything. How do you match up? Is the attraction you’re looking at dressed boldly or conservatively? Is she an omega or an Alpha?

No one wants to know how great you are, until they do. And up to that point, it’s how you present yourself on your first meet. Learn who you’re in front of by having them define themselves to you. You have charisma and charm, but it’s your intuition that’s going to set you on the right track. Use your intuition to find that particular or peculiar aspect of the person you’re interested in. Does this person have an accent? Are they wearing something unique or perhaps telling of who they are? Find out. This is your first move. Of course, not all seems to always be what it looks like. Don’t let the appearance of a person dictate your opinion. Your goal is to get to know them, to find out what it is they like and who they are. Nothing turns a person off more than bragging about yourself. You come off arrogant. You walked all the way here to tell me about you? I don’t think so. But you have made it in front of them and found something interesting about them. And nothing is more attractive than somebody interested in them. Your natural coolness is what’s going to put a person at ease and your observations of that person is what’s going to gain you most favor. Your goal, after all, is to get to know who the person is in front of you. The more you know about them, the more you gain a footing in them trusting you and finally wanting to know who you are.

Listen carefully. They are telling you what it is they are and are not, what they like and dislike so when the time comes for you to talk about yourself, you have an avenue to what you are going to share with them that will interest them about you. And this will lead to their interest in you.

Larry King was known as a brilliant interviewer. But most don’t know that King hated doing research on his interviewees. In fact, his worst interviews, according to him, were the ones where he had read their book or knew too much about them. For King, it was asking the questions, getting to know them that created the great interviews he was garnering. Even when he found himself at a bar, he found great interest in speaking to a plumber and asking them what it was that got them to become a plumber. In short, what made one of the greatest interviewers on radio successful was his absolute interests in the person in front of him. Be King. Listen with intent and you will have conquered the hardest aspect about meeting people, gaining their trust. More importantly, they will enjoy talking to you and keeping you hanging around. At some point, the interview will shift to you. But now, you have become the informed listener. You have gained insights into what interests them. Now you know what you can bring to the table when building your conversation and trust.

Just because you’re an Alpha doesn’t mean you always have to attack with your teeth. Attack with your sincerity and this will show your greatest Alpha trait: your confidence.

Ultimately, what is your strategy? Have a purpose. You’re not a drifter, you’re a person who moves with direction, so make your purpose clear and your clear purpose is to present yourself with the intent to engage, not to take over. I love the approach of "radical authenticity." When you're not having much luck dating, "just be yourself" is the worst advice. You don't have to be someone else, but there are things you can do (outlined in the book) to open up, be more honest and vulnerable, and let the real you (that your friends and family know and love) shine through in your dating life as well.
