About this ebook

The Adventurer Reading Award book was written with the Adventurer in mind. It seeks to close the gap between parents, caregivers and counsellors and the six to nine year age group, by providing material that fulfils the requirements of the Reading Award I – IV of the Adventurer curriculum. These awards are for the Busy Bee to Helping Hand classes within the Adventurer club.

This book aims to provide both the Adventurers and their caregivers with prescribed materials that are usually hard to come by, especially in the Zimbabwean context. The Adventurer Reading Award also assists by giving a guide on how counsellors and parents can design their own material that fulfils the curriculum requirements.

The author hopes everyone will find this an extremely useful resource. In this book, Adventurers will find exercises, games and mind stimulating activities. The book is highly interactive with young people in the aforementioned age group in mind, and the material has been simplified for their comprehension.

Innocent Rukweza is an ordained elder of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and a qualified masterguide. He has great passion for working with children and the young. Introduction

The Adventurer Club is a vibrant club of young children aged between five and nine years. Their curriculum is tailored for their specific psychological and developmental needs. This age group has a very short attention span and they embark on their studies for three years before they can read and write by themselves. This book is specifically tailored for the Busy Bee (6+ years), Sunbeam (7+ years), Builders (8+ years) and Helping Hand (9+ years) classes who have class-related reading awards.

The book seeks to address a gap in the Zimbabwean Adventurer space for adequate material to cover the reading award (I -IV) comprehensively. To this effect the book addresses these needs especially of progressive class teachers, parents, and counsellors involved in the adventurer ministry. This is firstly based on experience as a parent, and as an assessor in the East Zimbabwe Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, where the majority of parents and caregivers do not have access to material that is intended to
