    BUILDING YOUR SPIRITUAL TEMPLE

    YOU ARE THE TEMPLE

    CHAPTER 1

BUILDING YOUR SPIRITUAL TEMPLE OF GOD

    Where to Start

I have been a Christian all my life and I thought this is it with God. I used to go to church every Sunday and prayed occasionally in the morning and before going to bed, read the bible and sought God earnestly in prayer and fasting when I needed something from God. At least that is what I was taught and made to understand was a relationship am supposed to have with God. And in all this, I thought I was assured of a ticket to heaven without knowing there is more to being a Christian than just an occasional relationship with God.

It wasn’t until after going through a lot of stress, sickness and disease amidst losing everything I had and held dear, sort of like a midlife crisis that I started seeking God more. I had no idea that on my quest in seeking God for all my troubles, God would show up and eventually usher me to His tangible presence and I would know him in ways I never thought or imagined existed, because I never imagined the God who performed miracles in the old testament still does those things in this millennia.

Jesus Christ is here walking this earth through the lives of ordinary Christians who have encountered the manifest presence of God by the Holy Spirit and through this encounter, have become conduits of literal heaven here on earth. And our Lord Jesus Christ made it all possible for us to enter the Holy of holies when the temple veil that separates the Holy place and the Holy of Holies was torn in two when He died. The significance of this is that the veil being torn symbolizes Jesus sacrifice and the shedding of His own blood for the atonement of our sins and made a way for all people to enter the Holy of Holies.

    Hebrews 9:1-15

Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary. ² A tabernacle was set up. In its first room were the lampstand and the table with its consecrated bread; this was called the Holy Place. ³ Behind the second curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place, ⁴ which had the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered Ark of the Covenant. This ark contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron’s staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant. ⁵ Above the ark were the cherubim of the Glory, overshadowing the atonement cover. But we cannot discuss these things in detail now.⁶ When everything had been arranged like this, the priests entered regularly into the outer room to carry on their ministry. ⁷ But only the high priest entered the inner room, and that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance. ⁸ The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still functioning. ⁹ This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper. ¹⁰ They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings—external regulations applying until the time of the new order.¹¹ But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here,[a] he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. ¹² He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining[b] eternal redemption. ¹³ The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. ¹⁴ How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death,[c] so that we may serve the living God! ¹⁵ For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

    Hebrews 10:8-10

⁸ First he said, Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them—though they were offered in accordance with the law. ⁹ Then he said, Here I am, I have come to do your will. He sets aside the first to establish the second. ¹⁰ And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

    YOU ARE THE TEMPLE

For you to experience the fullness of the tangible presence of God and build yourself as a Spiritual Temple of God, you must sanctify yourself and separate yourself from the things of this world first. It all starts at the place of sanctification through the blood of Jesus and separation. Meeting God requires setting yourself apart from the world and seek to living a Holy life, for God dwells only in holy vessels. We are all created to be vessels, but are you a vessel that God can use? Do you have the hunger of wanting to be touched by Heaven? Holiness is what we all need as true children of God. Without Holiness, we can’t see God. Hebrews 12:14

¹⁴ Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

    1 Corinthians 3:16

¹⁶ Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?

    John 4:21-24

²¹ Woman, Jesus replied, believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. ²² You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. ²³ Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. ²⁴ God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.

When Jesus was talking to the Samaritan woman at Jacobs well, Jesus said a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father neither on the mountain nor in Jerusalem, but in Spirit and in truth. In those days, the Samaritans went to pray in the mountains and the Jews used to pray at the temple in Jerusalem. Our Lord and savior was saying that the true worshipers will not need to go to a place to worship God, they will worship God in spirit. When you worship God in spirit, you can worship God from anywhere because you are worshipping him from your heart. Through the indwelling of the Spirit of God that Jesus promised, the church will evolve from a building to a body which is the temple of the Spirit. The Spirit of God dwelling in man therefore makes man’s body God’s temple. Jesus is building a spiritual church.

    Ephesians 2: 21-22

21In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

    1 Corinthians 6:19-20

19Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

    1 Corinthians 3:16-17

16Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your
