A message from a Duke fan and friend in AUSTRALIA

    Hello Cheryl,

New Zealand 1979, I think it was, a very adventurous and slightly naughty 8 year old boy was about to meet his new heroes.

Bo and Luke Duke hit New Zealand television with a bang, every episode was full of drama, laughter, some good old school fighting and then you had the awesome General Lee and stunning Daisy Duke. I remember being glued to the television every week when there was an episode to find out what shenanigans they were up to this time and how I could re-enact the jumps using my slowly depleting matchbox car collection.

For a nine year old boy the Dukes of Hazzard at the time had a lot of life lessons i guess you could say, it gave you the importance of family, it taught you not to be pushed around and stand up for yourself, and even though there was the low level law breaking it always worked out at the end of the day and everyone would be happy. it was really good wholesome fun and lots of great driving

and stunts to blow my imagination through the roof.

Even up to this day I look at any American muscle cars with sheer exhilaration and awe, the look the sound and the feel are just something that no matter how many years later and how many millions have been spent by car manufacturers you can never

replicate that beauty, well as far as I’m concerned anyway.

The General Lee 1969 Dodge Charger is and will always be one the most iconic vehicles in tv and movie history and for me it represents freedom, fun and power which is why in 2018 when i travelled to the U.S.A to spend some time with my kids I discovered there was a Cooters in Nashville and they had a General Lee I could sit in.

Well, needless to say that was a massive moment and brought back so many memories, I did try to explain to my kids the history of it all but by this time they were getting a little bored. I was probably there for an hour in the shop looking at all the memorabilia and wishing I could have it all. lol

The visit really had an impact and now I have joined various Dukes of Hazzard fan clubs and purchased General Lee’s and starting up a really nice collection. I went so far as to get it tattooed onto my inside arm and the guy did an amazing job.

For me the Dukes of Hazzard will always remind me of a time when the world was different. back then life seemed to be slower there was way more freedom, more happiness and more adventure, especially for a kid.

One of these days I will sit down and watch the entire series again, its gonna be great!

    Regards, Matt Nee, AUSTRALIA
