On a Reach - Allen Henry
Forgetting Ithaca
Our weary trickster has connived his soul to hell
Beguiled every diabolos into submission
Our wily hero feared the times to come
In distant land he prayed for resolution,
Longed vainly for the life he left behind:
His son, his wife, his farm and folk, and peace.
On his voyage back toward his distant home,
A song with the effect of flowering lotus
That is, forget the life you left behind,
Came from lethal ice-eyed women. Gryllus,
Hopeless conscience, begged our hero: "hear not
Her song! That woman sings the end of us!"
Come, wily hero, we know all that is to come
Their eyes were lifeless as arctic seas
