    About the Author

Jeff Lester is the founder of Fit-at50plus, a lifestyle company that creates unique healthcare and supplement plans for those wanting to make the most of their 50s, 60s and beyond. The foundation of it all are four pillars to living a ‘Forever Young’ life, discovered in Switzerland, they are now the bedrocks in his life, these pillars haven’t been shaped by books or the internet, but rather by extraordinary experiences and life change.

Jeff is not an athlete, nor an Ironman or a celebrity from the world of business or the internet, but he does have an empowering story to tell. His rollercoaster ride in life has faced as many hardships as successes, whether relating to business, family, marriage, or health. He hopes that his story, which includes overcoming life threatening prostate and bladder cancer, business’s crashing, and divorce will not only inspire you in the strength of the human spirit, but will also give you some valuable insight into how and why he chose to found Fit-at50plus.

Jeff has found the hope, guidance and the motivation to live a great life, and now he wants to share that with you.

So come on, let’s do it.

This book is dedicated to Olga and my new born son Anthony, who help me feel Forever Young every day.

    Chapter 1

Every Journey Starts at the Beginning

I was once told by an amazing guy, who turned into an extreme adventurer, that the hardest step of all was the first one through the front door. It was four years until he walked back through it again.

It started going horribly wrong in 2007. I was 45.

Over the previous 15 years prior I had built a successful small business in property with two partners who were like family to me.

Life up until then had been great, a real journey of ups and downs, one that most entrepreneurs are familiar with. I’d had a great childhood in England, but an appalling education, mostly of my own doing.

I preferred motorcycles to math and simply didn’t have time for school. It is a great regret now, of course. I’m so glad to see that as I’m writing this, my 14-year-old daughter, Alex, is loving school. She made it into the local grammar through sheer hard work and I’m really proud of her.

To say I preferred motorcycles to math is a bit of an understatement – my younger life was focused entirely on them. I started racing as a nine-year-old schoolboy scrambler, and I simply never looked back.

When I left college, I raced for two years as a semi-professional on the weekends and was the parts manager for the company I raced for during the week (looking after all the bikes and riders the company had sold to).

It was fantastic fun, but I think I was the lowest paid professional sportsman in the country. My income, if I remember correctly, was around £2000 a year. Even by yesterday’s standards that was a terrible wage! But I wouldn’t change those years for anything.

Then one day, whilst I was washing my bikes at a friend’s place after a practice session, a young guy swooped into the yard driving a lime green Porsche 911. He jumped out and had a chat with my buddy for a while, then jumped back into his car and was gone. I was obviously keen to know who he was and how he was driving such an incredible car, particularly as I was driving a VW beetle with the running boards falling off (it had cost me £300).

It turned out that he was a high-pressure salesman. I initially thought that was something to do with pressure washers! I was so green behind the ears. But no, he was a self-confessed, high-pressure double-glazing salesman. I still had no clue what that was…

You may laugh, but 40 years ago double glazing was the must-have home improvement for the whole UK. Companies like Anglian, Zenith and Everest were making an absolute fortune off the back
