Very good, but ended much too soon! I hope this author writes another goddess theme book, longer and much more detailed.

Prologue

Aphrodite lounged by the pool in her private quarters on Mount Olympus. Aphrodite rolled onto her side to pluck another grape from a bowl on the nearby table. A fluttering sound caught her attention, and she angled her head toward the noise.

Greetings, Goddess.

Hermes! How wonderful to see you again.

I’m happy to see you as well. You have been away from Olympus for a long time.

A few decades is nothing in the life of a god, she waved away his comment.

You look lovely as always.

Aphrodite stretched to her full length on the chaise with her arms above her head. The pale-yellow dress she wore rose higher on her long legs. Her fingers dragged leisurely across her exposed shoulders, cleavage, and then her thighs. Hermes’s eyes appreciatively followed their progression.

Did you miss me, Hermes?

We all feel the loss when the Goddess of Love is gone from our mists.

Why thank you, Hermes, she said sweetly.

Did you enjoy your time away being with Poseidon? he asked, hovering near her seat.

Indeed, I did. Poseidon was even generous enough to give me a daughter during our time together.

That’s wonderful. Now that you’re back, do you think you will be able to spare some of yourself to share with me? he asked, boldly.

Aphrodite recognized the lustful gleam in his eye. She had seen it many times during the nights she spent in his bed in the past.  Her smile grew as she contemplated repeating the endeavor.

Perhaps, she teased, then rotated to a sitting position. Is that why you’re here, Hermes? Is this a social occasion to discuss the matter?

Not this time, beautiful Goddess. My lord Zeus seeks an audience with you, he informed her with a small bow then lowered himself to her eye level. However, I shall return later to discuss the terms of us spending some time together, he added before flying out of the room.

Aphrodite’s smile faded when he left, and she sighed before leaving her chair. Slowly, she made her way to the great hall and stood in the doorway to take a deep breath.

Bright red curtains adorned the walls tied back with golden cords to show off exquisite carvings along with the ceilings and ramparts. Seven golden chairs formed a semi-circle around the portal in the center of the floor and commanded attention upon entrance. All the chairs were the same size, bejeweled in deep purple and green stones with the exception of the center one. It was larger than the rest with a wider back and more intricate designs around the arms and legs.

No one occupied the room, save Zeus. The ruler of Olympus sat in the middle seat of prominence. Radiant beams of light extended from behind him exuding his power. He looked regal upon his platform wearing a glittering white robe and a crown of golden stars that sat low on his furrowed brow. When their eyes met, he jerked his head, calling her closer.

Aphrodite crossed the sparkling tiled floor that resembled a celestial sky. Blue sky and fluffy clouds were easily visible through the portal to Earth as she passed it.

I answer the call of my lord Zeus, king of the gods, Aphrodite announced, stopping before him, and bowing low.

Aphrodite, I will get right to it. I know of your daughter’s unconscionable deeds. It disturbs my peace, and it will no longer be tolerated.

My lord, they are but shenanigans of a willful child, she mentioned dismissively.

He leaned forward in his chair. She recoiled when his glare landed on her.

"Shenanigans? My humans do not think so. They cry out to me! I hear their terrified prayers constantly! he said pointing to the portal. They are devastated by her actions!  The beasts that she has conjured have ravaged the coastal cities of Dastan, my lovely Japorah, and even Nistera. Beautiful cities, all of them, filled with humans that worship the gods. Now they sit in ruins or close to it because of her fun and games! He scoffed and righted himself. I do not share your nonchalance or your sentiment, Goddess."

Aphrodite took a deep breath to calm her pounding heart. "I—I will admit that Herophile’s transgressions are a bit challenging to bear at times, my lord, but she is young in the eyes of the gods. Such mischief is a part of her immaturity. These wild childish antics will fade as she matures. I
