Amish Baby Blues - Monica Marks
Somewhere between the hours of two a.m. and three a.m., Catherine Bellamy woke in a sweating panic.
Instinctively, she touched her swollen belly, her breaths escaping in short, uneven rasps.
MOM!
she screamed. MOM!
In less than a minute, Ada Bellamy appeared at the doorway, her sleepy eyes veiled with concern.

she asked her teenaged daughter. Are you all right?

Ada rasped, suddenly wide-awake. Catherine’s head grew woozy as a searing pain shot through her abdomen. She cried out and Ada rushed to caress her daughter’s back.

Mom, it’s too early!
Catherine sobbed. He can’t come yet.
Shh...
Ada whispered as the call connected.
9-1-1, what’s your emergency?
Catherine heard a nasally voice ask in a slightly bored tone through the phone.
I-I think my daughter is in labor,
Ada choked. Catherine screamed out, a combination of agony and disbelief overcoming her.
NO!
she howled through her jagged breaths. "No,
