Amish Baby Blues - Monica Marks

Somewhere between the hours of two a.m. and three a.m., Catherine Bellamy woke in a sweating panic.

Instinctively, she touched her swollen belly, her breaths escaping in short, uneven rasps.

Shh... Ada whispered as the call connected.

9-1-1, what’s your emergency? Catherine heard a nasally voice ask in a slightly bored tone through the phone.

I-I think my daughter is in labor, Ada choked. Catherine screamed out, a combination of agony and disbelief overcoming her.

NO! she howled through her jagged breaths. "No,
