WORKING THE SYSTEM
I was working remotely, and I’ll confess, not giving my full attention to the Zoom call. In fact, I was only half listening while I got some work done, so I almost missed the announcement. Had I really heard that everyone on that call, including me, was getting laid off? Once that fact registered in my brain, I quickly switched gears from finishing my work to updating my resume. Unlike many people, I didn’t feel a sense of panic. I’d been laid off before—a total of four times during the course of my career—and I knew I’d be fine. Things would work out for me, I knew, because I had a system.
Things did work out for me, so much so that I started teaching other people how to do exactly what I’d done several times over. I launched my business, The LinkedIn Pros, and started coaching professionals to find their dream jobs, maximize every job offer, and increase their income by five or even six figures with one job move. It didn’t matter what field they were in. My clients work in technology, pharmaceuticals, health care, the beauty industry, education, politics, government, and the nonprofit sector. And my system works for all of them—as long as they work the system.
Not long after I started coaching corporate clients, I said yes to consulting with small business owners who needed help growing their business. These clients are public speakers and professional coaches. They work in retail, have medical practices, and run beauty brands. While their goals are different, most of the same principles apply. I customize my system to suit their needs, and the system works for these entrepreneurs too.
It has been a long while since I was in the market for a job, but
