DEDICATION
I dedicate this book MURDER IN PARADISE
to my lovely wife Karen Lovejoy Franks who is an avid reader of all genres to include murder mysteries.
FIRST WORDS
Some of you are wondering about the title of this book. Why PARADISE? Let me preface our beginning with this. The Lord God formed a man (Adam) from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. So Adam became the first living man and Eve the first living woman. The Lord God also planted a garden and called it Eden. This garden was perfect in every way…an earthly and absolutely gorgeous garden to look upon. This is where Adam and Eve lived. They looked after and took care of the garden. The Garden of Eden which we will call Paradise
was the most beautiful place on earth. A scenic and refreshing river flowed through it and the garden provided food for Adam and Eve and their family.
Hence, Adam made love to his wife Eve and she gave birth to Cain and Able. She was happy to bring forth sons and later daughters. Abel kept flocks and Cain worked the soil.
In the course of time Cain became jealous and envious of Able. Cain brought some of his fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. However, Abel brought forth a better offering of fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but not on Cain’s offering. Cain became angry. His heart was filled with hate, rage, and murder.
One day, Cain and Able went out into the field together, but did not come back together. Cain became so angry and miserable with rage that he killed his brother Able without any remorse at all. Thus, we have our first murder on Planet Earth in the middle of Paradise (Eden). And thus began the beginning of murders to this very day.
Then the Lord asked Cain where his brother might be.
Cain responded, I don’t know. Am I my brother’s keeper?
The Lord asked, What have you done Cain? Did you know that your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. You are now under a curse. When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth throughout the remainder of your life.
What about today? Well, in 2020, there were over 16,425 murders committed in America alone. In this book we are going to look at some fictional characters…their state of mind, their hatred for other human beings, their mannerisms, their psychological thinking, and their mental and emotional status. For most cases, we will find out whodunit
, why they did it, and how they did it.
Our first mystery deals with a deputy named Leroy Jackson, a deputy sheriff in the great state of Florida and lovely city of Waterford…in which most residents call the City of Paradise
.
It seems like Deputy Jackson loves fast cars, hot women, and cold booze. He loves using his legal authority right up to the wire (the max). Let’s go to chapter 1 and see what he is doing now and where he might be going.
CHAPTER 1
Deputy Leroy Jackson got a call from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department. Two people had been shot at close range. He put the pedal to the metal and was racing to the crime scene. He was now doing 95 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. Fortunately, he made it to 1022 Paradise Lane in Waterford with only one incident. It seems that Leroy Jackson hit a mailbox and barely missed a child on a bicycle…so far.
The first thing that Leroy did was call for backup and medical support (EMTs). He went inside with his 9 MM at the ready position. He did not know what to expect. Suddenly, out of nowhere came a person dressed like a clown with an AR 15 in his hands.
Deputy Leroy shouted, Drop your weapon and put your hands up so that I can see them. Do it now.
The clown turned abruptly and fired at Deputy Leroy and nicked him in the shoulder (flesh wound). Then all hell broke loose. The Deputy who likes fast cars, hot women, and cold booze, emptied his 9 MM on the clown. The clown dropped to the floor like a lead balloon…dead as a doornail.
Deputy Leroy said under his breath, The price of ignorance still remains HIGH. All the person needed to do was drop his weapon. Why did he make me shoot him? I don’t get it?
The two people (Mr. and Mrs. Johnson) who were shot and wounded by the clown were taken away and rushed to the hospital. Both had been shot several times. One of the victims (Mrs. Irene
