    Every time I write something heartfelt,

    it feels like a suicide note;

    perhaps I die in hopes of living a little.

    I thought that he would be the mask,

    That I could write behind;

    A lifeless puppet to lay the blame,

    For every quote or line.

    The feeble Jekyll of the mind;

    A Hyde that would not be confined 

    Reflection of the me inside.

    That I was trying to find.

    Crucible

    I have to beat myself,

    Just to be myself.

    But when I see myself,

    I’m so pleased with myself.

    You don’t see my self,

    Until I reveal myself.

    Through sweat and tears,

    Is how I heal myself.

    The Sapling

    I once shot from her root.

    Launched into Spring, the eager sprout,

    To clutch the sky, though in a drought.

    Dare to breach the modest flute,

    Without repute.

    I once shot from her root.

    I once ate of her fruit.

    Sweetest, tempting, drunken nectar,

    Natures ripened toxic vector.

    A taste divine beyond refute,

    So absolute.

    I once ate of her fruit.

    I once hung from her limb.

    Swinging lifeless in the wind,

    My love bequeath, my love rescind.

    Once ablaze now dull and dim;

    I was not him,

    I was not him.

    I died on her limb.

    There’s a question in my head;

    That screams from mountains but never
