    Introduction

    There are a few terms that you must define for yourself before beginning your practice.

    Happiness

    The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines happiness as a state of well-being and contentment and goes further to list synonyms including blessedness, bliss, gladness, joy, and warm fuzzies (Merriam-Webster, n.d.-a)

    Although happiness can be defined by the terms mentioned above, it’s important to acknowledge the subjectiveness of it all. A lunch outing with your family could bring you an immense feeling of happiness and joy, while someone else might find their family unbearable, and spending time with them might bring that person unhappiness and despair. Many people describe happiness as being satisfied with life or the feeling of positive emotions, but it’s also important to acknowledge that you can live a happy life while still experiencing moments of sadness.

    You see, happiness and sadness go hand in hand. If you’ve never experienced sadness, then how would you know when the sadness no longer lingers and when happiness creeps in?
