    Alfred Motolla’s novel The Broken Hearts is set in South Africa in 2019. This novel is about the parents that cherry-pick beaus for their daughter. They want their daughters to date with swains from rich families. The author tries to stop parents from taking iniquitous decisions for their daughters apropos love. "The love is not about money but is about happiness. A person can be rich but dearth of love therefore a girl must follow her heart’s desire. The author tries to oppugn woebegone relationships.

    Alfred Motolla is a South African novelist. The Broken Hearts novel is his first novel. He decided to write a novel looking at heartsick relationships in this world.

    Setting

    The setting is the emplacement and time in which the story takes place. The setting of The Broken Hearts is South Africa[Limpopo Province, Bolobedu, Mawa Block 9] during 20th century.

    Plot

    The plot is the storyline. The storyline has a commencement, rising action, a climax, and an end. The storyline is driven by conflicts.

    Conflicts

    Conflicts are occasions, actions or knots that develop the plot. Characters may conflict with themselves (internal conflict), with other characters or fate (external conflict). We have two conflicts in this story drive, that novel to the climax. In this novel, the main conflict is between Harry and Princess’s mother who abhorrence the relationship of her daughter and Harry therefore she decided to direful Harry at the corner during the night.

    Climax

    The climax is the point at which the tension is at peak. The climax of this novel is when Harry is fighting for his life at Letaba Hospital on ICU section because 66-gang group attacked him.

    PLOT OF THE NOVEL

    The Heart Broken novel begins with the love between Harry Mullins and Princess Taylor. Harry Mullins is a young man about eighteen(18) years old, he is doing Grade 12 at Khesethwane High School, Mawa Block 12. Princess Taylor is a beautiful girl about nineteen(19) years old, completed Grade 12 at Marobathota High School.

    Princess was dating Tommy at the beginning of the novel. Princess and Tommy broke up because he was cheating on her with multiple girls. Carol, Harry’s neighbor is the one created the relationship of Harry and Princess through premediating dinner and invited Princess and Harry to be present. Harry comes from a poor background and Tommy comes from a rich background. The love of Harry and Princess caused the fray between the Mullins and the Taylors. Elizabeth, Princess’s mother started to abhor Harry and they became enemies.

    Elizabeth wanted her daughter to date with boys from rich families. Elizabeth started to threaten Harry. Patience Taylor, Princess’s auntie encouraged Princess not to dump Harry. Harry impregnated Princess, he thought that Princess will never leave him since she will be having his child, but his plan was hampered by Princess’s parents. Princess’s parents planned an abortion without telling Harry. Princess’s father was loving Harry, but he was poured the love portion in his teacup so that he can abhorrence Harry. Harry decided to find a replacement for Princess through seeking for a new girlfriend.

    Harry started to date with Candies and Ren. Harry decided to wed Candies and Ren. The Taylors started to repent. Princess started to have sex with multiple boys per day and ended up being pregnant. There is a secret that Elizabeth is hiding for Harry and Princess. Elizabeth’s ancestors started to sinister her and gave her a final ultimatum. Harry involved in a car casualty and taken to hospital. Harry was given pharmaceuticals that will make him to recover blistering. Elizabeth went to Harry’s hearthstone and asked Harry to set a meeting with the Mullins and the Taylors. Elizabeth coughed her secret and asked for forgiveness. Elizabeth was forgiven. The DNA tests stated that Princess is a sister of Harry.

    CHAPTER-BY-CHAPTER SUMMARY OF THE NOVEL

    Chapter 1

    The novel begins with the fondness between Harry and Princess. Harry and Princess tarry at Mawa Block 9, Harry is doing Grade 12 at Khesethwane High School and Princess completed Grade 12 at Marobathota High School. The love of Harry and Princess was premeditated by Carol through preparing dinner and soliciting Princess to be present. Carol’s main aspiration was to build a romantic relationship between Harry and Princess. Princess and Tommy were dissevered due to Tommy’s bad behaviors.

    Chapter 2

    This chapter explains the family backgrounds of Harry and Tommy. Tommy comes from a well-endowed background while Harry comes from a famished background. Tommy was treated like a glass by his parents. Tommy’s parents were giving him money to impress
