    Dedication

To my children—Jenifer Kristine and Erica Nicole. I lived because I loved them.

To my grandchildren—Ciara, Tristan and Jada. I have been blessed to enjoy them.

To my parents—Helen and Herman for their heartfelt love and unwavering support.

To Tom who carried me in his arms to safety.

To my siblings—Herman, Vincent, Albert, Jeanette, Arlene, Adele, Marion, Gloria and Celeste. I have learned from each of you.

To my friends and supporters—you know who you are.

    Special Acknowlegment

To Doctor T for his caring approach and life-saving medical expertise.

The purpose of this book is to let you know-once and for all-that you can survive in turbulent waters and when you’re there, you are not alone. Many people have gulped more water than you could ever imagine. They have been tossed overboard more often than they even thought possible. However, the good news is that they’ve made it. They have learned how to swim and you can, too.

As I look back over my life, I have experienced many hardships, adversities, problems and obstacles.

Whatever name you give them, it’s something you feel you don’t deserve, it’s far too painful, it’s just not fair. How many times have you said when trials engulf you, This is unbelievable!

This just can’t be happening! If I didn’t experience it, I wouldn’t have believed it! What the heck is going on? Here’s one of mine, The Devil must have amnesia and think I am the only one left on the planet!

We grow because we struggle, we learn and overcome.

    R.C. Allen

I want you to understand that I understand. I am going to look back over my life and share one of my overboard moments and how I managed to swim to safety. Now, there are many more. However, out of respect for your time, I will limit my experiences to just one. And my story begins… .

I was offered a well-paying job with a national company. My husband was really proud of me and my family thought it was just wonderful. I am a college graduate and have taught high school for a number of years. Then, I just flatly refused to work until my second child was attending school full-time.

What we must try to be, of course, is ourselves… and wholeheartedly. We must find out what we really are and what we really want…

I applied for this position really hoping it wouldn’t be offered to me. I wanted it to appear as though I really wanted a job and if I were turned down, I would have acted like the saddest person who ever lived. Unfortunately, I did get the job. My problem is that I interview well and take tests with relative ease and usually earn the position.

It bothered me to have decided to have children and then have someone else care for them for more hours of the day than I could. I just wasn’t going to do it. Although my husband supported me, he would have preferred the money I would bring in, but his support was there and I was grateful.

My mother was a very successful business owner and she worked all the time. Monday was her day off and was the only day of the week when I arrived

Love is everything. It is the key to life, and its influences are those that move the world.
