    Short Stories - AL Katar

Gator Restaurant is a restaurant set off in the back woods of a

major southern interstate highway that is visited by some

motorists passing by. They have a great reputation of

customer service. A must see. Come on down.

    Scene 1

A mid-western family packs their car for a well-deserved summer vacation. They hope to use this trip to bond closer together as a family. Father Arto, mother Traci, their 17 year-old son Maurice, and 16 year-old daughter Marilyn.

    Scene 2

As the family enters the state of Florida, in their 8 year-old vehicle with a not so great air conditioning unit, they take a detour on a 2-lane highway, heading south hoping to take a shortcut to the Gulf of Mexico. About 5 miles in, they see a sign pointing to a restaurant 6 miles down road. They then drive up to a sign and turn into the Gator Restaurant entrance road.

    Scene 3

The family winds the car down the 2-lane road for what seems like miles. The road finally opens up to the Gator Restaurant parking lot; a mid sized dirt lot sparsely filled. The cars in the lot are all very dusty and in need of a washing. A tow truck pulls out of the lot as they park, pulling a car away. The Gator Restaurant sits on a bayou with a bridge separating it from the parking lot.

    Scene 4

The family walks across the bridge to the restaurant. The building’s appearance is dull and dusty as the family walks in and takes their seats. Seeing no customers or staff, Arto yells out.

Arto: Is there anyone here, is there anyone back
