About this ebook

From Maine to McMurdo by way of Mesquite is a collection of poems and a bit of prose. My wish for you is to read each poem slowly to experience the sights, sounds, and feelings as if you were with me while I did the writing. It wont happen with each selection, and perhaps not with the first reading; though there is definitely something for everyone in these pages.
My first book, Art and Poetry from The Ice, was a small collection of poems done at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, and illustrated by a friend (who later became my husband); now thats a partnership!
My early beginnings happened in a small farming community in Maine. I grew up with three brothers, two sisters and a whole community of friends and neighbors. Rural life was never dull. While I was in high school, our house and barn burned to the ground ... the good news ... no one was hurt, and my perspective changed dramatically.
I have been writing poetry and prose for as long as I can remember ... though my collected poems only date back to early adulthood. Previously I would write ... and give the verse to the one who inspired it. My mother had quite a collection before our fire.
As I travel, experience new places, and meet new people, I generally put my thoughts and feelings on paper. Hence - From Maine to McMurdo by way of Mesquite - I believe I am drawn to place names that begin with "M" because its the first letter of my first name. Also, I dont know of very many people who can run "M-M-M-M-s" together without thinking of something "yummy".
With that ... Ill share my favorite phrase "Life is People" ... Enjoy ! -- ME

    To Those Who Might—

    Dedication

    This book is dedicated to God . . . Who created the beauty all about me . . . Who gave me eyes to behold it, a heart to appreciate it, and a mind to consider sharing it with others;

And to my mother . . . who kept her spirit filled with wonder and fun throughout raising my brothers and sisters and me . . . through times that would have broken a lesser person . . . and while still making plans for the future—left this world peacefully in her sleep at the young age of 75. Thanks for all your encouragement.

    May I do as well.

I’m including a copy of a childhood poem by my Mom—Do enjoy her early sense of humor and creativity—Again . . . May I do as well . . .

    Our Rooster

A great old friend was our rooster

He crowed so loud that we useter

    Wake up in the morn

    All tired and worn

But the dinner he made was a booster!

    My Wish For You

    What remembrance, I wonder—

    Would I leave with you?

If I could chose one thought

    For you to carry on—

What would it be, I ask myself

    But no easy answer find.

    My mind reviews our lives—

The people we have met . . .

    The places we have been—

    Stories told . . . songs that
