Don a member of The American Guild of Variety Artists and is the past President of the Parent Assembly of the Society of American Magicians, the largest and oldest magical fraternity in America. He has been the co-producer of the Salute to Magic at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center in New York City. He is a hypnotist,certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists. A gifted speaker, mentalist and instructor in all aspects of hypnosis whose methods are a culmination of procedures developed in the military as part of G2. He is also a former public relations executive. He has a B.A. degree and two Master's degrees. His Ph. D work has been in the field of Sociology. FOREWORD

It has often been said that a magic book in which one can obtain one or two effects is a good book. This book which you are about to read has nearly fifty effects written in a simplistic style with a minimum number of words.

This book is a simply-written textbook of mental magic. It does not discuss history of the effects nor does it discuss their presentation. Rather the book focuses on the effect itself and then reveals its secret. I feel that those interested with a certain effect contained in this book will study and rehearse the effect. The presentation will be a reflection of their own personality rather than copying the presentation of other performers.

After you have read this book, note a few effects that appeal to you. Practice them by yourself before presenting them to an audience. At the concluding section, I will discuss how to routine a program for an audience.

MENTALISM DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS

Part one is contact mind reading and includes muscle reading in which, for example, the spectator knows where an object is hidden and guides the performer who is holding the wrist of the spectator while the spectator thinks strongly where the object is hidden. The performer is guided by subconscious movements of the spectator’s arm to the hidden object. This book does not address contact mind reading which is very difficult to master.

Part two is non-contact mind reading which this book addresses. It includes psychological forces, mathematical and logical principles designed to entertain and amaze. It is a magic book devoted to mental magic.

Other than for the bonus effect at the end of this book all the effects can be presented as written without any additional expense. You will, however, have to purchase decks of cards, pads and sharpie pens. The bonus effect will require an outlay of about $15.
