    INTRODUCTION AND VISION

    Everyone Is interested in succeeding, moving ahead in their careers, their interpersonal relationships and life outside the workplace. Everyone wishes to gain success in all these areas they desire. But, for most people it will remain a wish.

    Most people feel that if they work hard, wear the right clothes, go to the right school or go to the right bar after work it will be okay. Any other plans they make will deal with peripherals. They never go to the heart of the matter. The jobs you want, the business relationships you wish, the promotion you deserve or even the interpersonal relationships, a. k. a. Marriage, depends upon the person or persons making a judgement about you that Is positive and acted upon. Most people never act directly upon the decision-makers.

    One of the major complaints that people have about the business world, or even the social world, is that there is a lot of competition. In this competition, a person can take one of several strategies. Most peoplee decide that they will be good guys. They will try to get along with everyone and think the best over everyone. Other people decide that they must stick to the job and keep their nose to the grindstone and not pay attention to anything else that’s going on. The third strategy that is commonly used is to be ultra competitive. Make sure you stand out by taking credit for everything you can whether are not you actually accomplished.

    This usually results in taking advantage of people in ways that are harmful to their career or their personal life. An offshoot of this strategy Is to undermine other competitors. This can be done in a number of ways that most people are aware of. Spreading false rumors, denigrating a person in the many different ways. None of these are very positive or may have a long-term effect the individual is looking for. An individual using this strategy is just interested in the next promotion and that’s it. Regardless of the effect on the organization. They obviously feel that they will be moving on to another position and not have to deal with the rack and demoralization they have caused.

    Or perhaps you have observed the clumsy attempts of the person to influence the boss and laughed. You might have said I’ll never put myself in that position.

    The expression, Sucking up, conjures up images of the 1940s movie actor Peter Laurie, it is almost patented role of a toady subservient. yes master! Coming master!. This is what flashes through the minds of many individuals when the. We recoil from this very thought.

    Yet we all would like to have more influence about the decisions that are made about us every day. This book will give you a step by step method that uses time-tested psychological techniques and methods of persuasion developed by sales and business people to help you build your plan to get the influence you desire to get where you want to go in life yet maintain a good guy attitude and protect yourself from those who might use you.
