What Am I To You?
My Special Child
Her pure, limpid, black eyes
Stare intently, unfocused into space,
Her upturned nose and thin lips,
Which almost force a smile,
Complement her pixie-like face
Crowned by a mop of
Straight, black, unruly hair.
One hand cups her face
In an attitude of pensiveness,
The other hand is clenched tightly
With determination.
Her small, doll-like body,
Insinuating frailty,
Belies her age.
She is the epitome of innocence,
Blissfully unaware
Of the anguish, the heartache
It has taken,
To bring her to this first stage
Of her very precious life,
—This very special child!
