Night has fallen on the quaint little village of Gooseberry Falls. It is bedtime at the Goslin home at One Hundred Goose Creek Lane. Mr. and Mrs. Goslin are in KitKat’s bedroom, and the nightly reading of Mother Goose nursery rhymes have begun.
Her favorite is Humpty Dumpty, but she is saddened because Humpty is in so many pieces. Isn’t there anything that can be done for poor Humpty?
asked a sobbing KitKat.
Mrs. Goslin wiped away KitKat’s tears and tried to comfort her. You really love those nursery rhyme characters,
said Mr. Goslin to his six-year-old daughter.
Yes, Daddy, I have a secret wish, I wish for every night.
What is it?
asked Mr. Goslin while twirling the end of his black mustache.
Can’t tell
responded KitKat. If I tell, my wish will not come true. Besides, it’s a secret, Daddy.
Clutching her ever-present Humpty Dumpty puppet, she opened her bedroom window and gazed at a bright and sparkling shooting star streaking across the night sky and recited:
Starlight, Starbright
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish, I wish tonight.
Please, let my dream come true. When you wish upon a star, your dreams do come true, don’t they, Mommy?
Mrs. Goslin always took off her glasses when she wanted to make something clear. Yes, if you really believe hard enough and work hard enough, sometimes dreams can come true,
Mrs. Goslin assured her young daughter.
All right,
said Mr. Goslin, off we go to bed now.
Say your prayers and good night, my little dreamer.
You know we love you very much, KitKat.
God bless Mommy and Daddy, and please help poor Humpty Dumpty,
KitKat began. He has so many friends that want to play with him after so many years of being a scrambled egg. Amen! Good night, Mommy and Daddy, I love you!
Soon the black-haired, pigtailed little girl was fast asleep in dreamland.
What an imagination she has,
Mr. Goslin said to his sympathetic wife. Sometimes I think she gets too wrapped up with these nursery rhymes.
Now, honey,
said Mrs. Goslin, try to remember when you were her age.
Well, I guess you are right, dear,
Mr. Goslin said as he turned off their bedroom light.
Poor Humpty,
said Mrs. Goslin in the dark.
Go to sleep, dear,
responded her husband. You know I do wonder what KitKat’s secret wish could be,
he added.
KITKAT’S VISITORS
Finally, everyone was asleep and everything was quiet in the Goslin home. In fact, the entire village was quiet. A glowing golden light floated down unnoticed from the night sky, and entered KitKat’s bedroom window. Out of the glowing light stepped a beautiful lady with long curly blond hair dressed in a glittering golden gown. As KitKat slept, the lady raised her magic wand over KitKat, and the same glowing golden light surrounded KitKat as well. She whispered, Kathryn Marie, I am Starlight-Starbright, your wishes-and-dreams-can-come-true fairy. You will have wisdom beyond your years. Wisdom will radiate from you, and everyone will put their trust in you. I will see you later, you will have more visitors tonight, and I promise that you won’t be disappointed.
She waved her magic wand over KitKat again, and a beautiful glittering golden dress appeared at the foot of KitKat’s bed, and out the window she flew.
Circling high above the Goslin home was a plump little lady wearing a denim dress with a
