Author’s Note
The spoken word is uniquely our purview as human beings. We use it often and well to communicate. Yet, too often, something we should have or could have said goes unspoken. Sometimes we communicate in song or action or gesture without need of words. Sometimes the circumstance of the moment allows us to transcend verbal communication. At times our words are directed at ourselves and they remain our unvoiced thoughts (which can make very nice poems!).
The poems in this book give voice to many of these words not spoken.

QUIET MOMENTS
~~~~~~~
5:00 A.M.
One star nods in the eastern sky,
One soft grey cloud lingers nigh,
Eager birds crisscross the sky.
Nighttime shadows bid good-bye.
Nestlings twitter, rabbits run.
Tree tops, not to be outdone,
Flutter soft ’neath waking sun.
Business of the day’s begun.
COME TO THE LAKE
Come with me down to the lake.
Come unencumbered.
Neither have books nor pastels
Nor camera nor papers to grade.
Come alone with yourself, come.
Be ready to meet all those who
await you.
Meet the feasting nuthatch, the
hawk on the wing,
the moon in his haze, the deer
in the morning.
Be ready to meet the seeker who
travels by your side.
Come quietly.
