About this ebook

The book addresses the origin and foundation of the American Dream, which equates to unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These rights were proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, won through the American Revolution War, guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, and preserved by dedicated citizens. During the past several decades, we have witnessed a severe deterioration in traditional family and national core values, which are contributing to the current problems plaguing the USA. These problems are compounded by the negative attitudes manifested by many Americans concerning their unalienable rights and the provisions of the U.S. Constitution. The current situation is a potential threat to the preservation of the Dream and USAs existence as a free nation.

The publication highlights the provisions of the U.S. Constitution, major social, economic, and political developments; current situations in the United States that adversely impact on the Dream; and how Americans unwittingly and deliberately distort the provisions of the U.S. Constitution by failing to perform their duties and responsibilities and deliberately conduct acts that adversely impact the welfare of the people and the security of the nation. To this end, the book addresses solutions and actions for preserving the American Dream.

    Dedication

I dedicate this book to my family, friends, and associates, who provided me with the wisdom, insight, and inspiration to embark on this monumental task. First, to my parents, who provided me with the wisdom and understanding to appreciate and live in compliance with traditional American values; then, to my best friend, Loretta, who provided me with the encouragement, moral support, and perseverance that enabled me to begin and complete the book. Next, to my former leaders, comrades, and coworkers, who provided me with the professional wisdom, insight, and knowledge to write the book through hands-on experience, in written communications, and routine exchange of views and opinions on the current local, national, and global situation. Finally, to all Americans, living and dead, who have dedicated their lives to secure and preserve the American Dream… they are my greatest inspiration.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    Image24362.JPG

John H. Davis is a retired U.S. Army sergeant with over fifty years of combined military and other federal government service and thirty-five years of planning and management experience. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Department of Defense Security Academy, currently Defense Security Service Academy (DSSA), all major military combating terrorism and security management courses.

As an army engineer noncommissioned officer, Mr. Davis has lived and worked with American soldiers of diverse regional and cultural backgrounds in the capacity as leader, supervisor, trainer, peer, and subordinate. He has traveled throughout the United States and lived in urban, suburban, and rural communities, where he interacted with citizens in all walks of life. He has traveled and lived in Southeast Asia and Europe, worked with their military personnel, and interfaced with the local populaces.

As a Department of Defense (DOD) civilian, he worked and interfaced with military and civilian employees in all military services, representatives for federal, state, and local governments, and the private industry sector. He participated in national and local security conferences, workshops, and planning conferences.

Mr. Davis performed concurrent duties as the installation combating terrorism officer and operations security officer, Fort Belvoir, Virginia for thirteen years and assistant installation security officer for over seven years. In these positions, he developed, monitored, and evaluated the execution of specific security programs for over twenty thousand military, civilian, and contract personnel. This entailed planning, scenario development, and evaluating the conduct of antiterrorism exercises for Fort Belvoir and supporting organizations and integrating installation exercises into the National Capital Region exercise. As operations security officer, Mr. Davis developed and monitored the execution of a program designed to protect unclassified information gleaned from U.S. operations that could be used against the Untied States by an adversary (individuals, groups, countries, organizations). Essentially, anyone who can harm people, resources, or mission is an adversary.

As assistant security and information security program manager, Mr. Davis monitored and evaluated the execution of DOD Information Security Program designed to protect classified information. Oversight of this program entailed advising supported organizations on security requirements, evaluating program execution, and reporting security violations. He supported organizations, included Fort Belvoir Garrison, tenant organizations, and Department of the Army (DA), DOD, and other national agencies having a support agreement with Fort Belvoir.

Mr. Davis is a native of North Carolina, who migrated to eastern Virginia near the end of 1950 in search of a better life. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, completed basic and advance training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and then traveled to Germany on his first overseas assignment. After his tour in Germany, Mr. Davis returned to Fort Belvoir, Virginia, where he got married and established his new home in Washington DC. Later, he moved to northern Virginia, where he established primary residency after his retirement from the military.

Mr. Davis has used his vast military and civil servant experience, along with extensive research on the development of the United Sates as a nation and major current events impacting the state of the union to write this book. Perhaps the most valuable source of information comes from observing the social, economic, political, technological changes, and observing fellow Americans’ daily activities and listening to them air their opinions about current major issues and situations impacting their lives and the welfare of the United States of America (USA).

    PREFACE

This book addresses the origin and foundation of the American Dream, which equates to unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These rights were proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, won by the American Revolution War, guaranteed and preserved by our ancestors. During the past several decades, we have witnessed a severe deterioration in traditional family and national core values, which are the major contributing factors to the major social, economic, political problems plaguing the USA today. These problems are compounded by the negative attitudes manifested by many Americans concerning their unalienable rights and the provisions of the U.S. Constitution. The current situation is a potential threat to the USA’s existence as a free nation; thus, I feel compelled to share my observations and concerns.

The primary purpose of the book is to highlight current conditions, situations, and the environment in the United States that adversely impacts on attaining the Dream and potentially threatening the survival of the nation. To this end, the book addresses how Americans unwittingly and deliberately distort the provisions of the U.S. Constitution, fail to perform their duties as responsible individuals and American citizens, and deliberately conduct acts that adversely impact on the welfare of the people and the security of the nation. Hopefully, the book will inspire readers to renew their commitment to fulfill their responsibilities as American citizens to preserve the American Dream. The beneficiaries will be us, our children, our community, and our nation.

The book is designed for Americans in all walks of life, including elected public officials, public service providers, major industry sector executives, and the general public. These groups have specific duties and responsibilities in shaping the USA’s present and future and have a stake in the American Dream. I hope this book is widely read. If we are to resolve the major recurring problems and issues of today and put the United States on the road to economic recovery, we must reassess and readjust our current attitudes and renew our commitment to support the national objectives outlined in the U.S. Constitution. This is the only way we can ensure the survival of the USA as a free nation.

There were many resources used in preparing this book. Core sources include online federal agency reports, personal dictionaries, Yahoo News, daily and special TV news forecasts and journalistic events, and personal experiences and observations. Additionally, real-time current events, breaking news, and many hours of research provided valuable knowledge, insight, and appreciation concerning the origin, foundation, quest for, the obstructions, and the distortion of the American Dream.

I do not expect everybody in the USA to agree with the content and ideas conveyed in this book. But I do hope that the information presented will serve as a wake-up call for elected public officials, public service providers, major industry sector executives, and the general public coming to the realization that the current state of the union is not conducive to achieving the American Dream and it needs to be fixed—right now!

The book comprises eleven chapters. Chapter 1 defines the American Dream and identifies common characteristics of Americans that significantly impact on the Dream. Chapter 2 outlines the provisions of the U.S. Constitutions, our prime guide and pattern for attaining the Dream. Chapter 3 describes the arduous quest of early and current Americans in pursuit of the Dream, including social, economic, political, and technological advancements. Chapter 4 addresses the major obstructions we have encountered during the twentieth and twenty first centuries in pursuit of the Dream. Chapter 5 describes how current day Americans unwittingly and deliberately misrepresent the provisions of the U.S. Constitution. Chapter 6 addresses how Americans are currently experiencing recurring problems and issues because we fail to learn from past mistakes and success. Chapter 7 addresses situations and conditions that are typical of the bad way things are in the United States now. Chapter 8 addresses events that warn Americans that we must do something to change the current adverse situations existing in the nation to prevent dire consequences. Chapter 9 suggests major changes needed to resolve the current adverse situations in the United States today. Chapter 10 addresses required actions to monitor the planning and implementation of major changes to ensure success. Chapter 11 addresses how both individual citizens and national goals and objectives will be attained if every American
