About this ebook
The summer of 2011 was not like any other Natalie Nwanekwu had ever experienced. Although she was used to travelling away from her town of Newark, Delaware. During the summer months, eleven-year-old Natalie was thrilled that her aunt and two of her cousins would be visiting for three whole weeks. But little did she know that her summer experience would become a defining moment in her life.
In this account of her fun times with her summer guests, Natalienow in middle schoolpens her memories beginning with the day her Auntie Odiche and her cousins, Maurine and Kathy arrived in her home. While detailing their shared moments reading the Bible, shopping, and attending church together, Natalie offers a heartwarming glimpse into the excitement and wide variety of other feelings a young girl experiences when welcoming extended family into her home for a visit. But when an earthquake suddenly strikes and a hurricane threatens the eastern shore, Natalie details how she and her family learned to rely on each other, and God, for courage.
Pearl Drops in My Summer shares a young girls journey through an unforgettable summer as she excitedly receives guests from afar and experiences more than she ever imagined.

Preface
This piece of writing was the work of a very young girl named Nathalie who lives with her parents and two brothers in the city Newark, Delaware. It narrates a journal entry of all the events that took place during a summer vacation with her aunty and cousins in her family home residence. Her cousins and their parents live in Brooklyn, New York and her auntie lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Traditionally, the cousins often make frequent visits to her home during the special holidays which would be the Thanksgiving or Christmas. But this lasted mostly for the weekend. These days of the year are always anticipated and always marked by extensive preparations, meditations and passionate feelings for these special ‘D-days’. Once they arrive, her joys escalate but even though, end very quickly as they depart in two days’ time. Natalie’s aunt had a 3-week vacation time to spend in her house and then thought it wise to bring along two of her cousins from New York. One of the cousins, Maurine is her closest tie as they were born about 3-weeks apart in the same apartment before their mothers eventually separated. Amidst the separation, their tie remained as very close till present.
Usually, Natalie’s summertime would be spent traveling to places but the 2011 summer was spent in her house and differently. This time, there were several activities in the home that kept the candle of joy glowing throughout. Her father travelled for vacation and was not present at the time. In the mornings, Natalie’s mother would go to work leaving her in the company of her aunt, siblings and cousins. Natalie would not think of any other vacation better than the seemingly unending days filled with fun activities amidst her family and family guests. This work was presented in a chronological order starting from guest arrival, August 9 to day of travelling home August 24. The happy moments started from August 9 up till the morning of August 23. This period of time was filled with lessons, spiritual activities, reflections, recapitulations, outings, gaming and sporting activities draped with sporadic and riveting jokes; and laughing moments.
Towards the end of this vacation period, as the time
