ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
To my mother Helen, you gave me everything I needed.
Thank you.
Pumpkin Seeds, Pork Rinds, jump rope and jacks
My favorite games, my favorite snacks
Then life was simple, I was young and carefree
Gave no thought to what I’d grow up to be
One potato, two potato, three potato, four
Back then all I cared about was getting out the door
Being with my friends was the highlight of my day
Then I grew up,
And life got in the way.
78813235.jpgSIGHTS ON 6TH STREET
R eminiscing brought on by summer heat,
Fire hydrants full blast on Sixth Street
Everybody on the steps trying to catch a breeze
Ms. Minnie yapping it up bout who and what she sees
Sixth Street was lively and full of life.
Even the junkies caused no strife
Sam and Irene are in love today, so you know
It’ll be cool around the way
Jumping rope and playing jacks
Hoping your friends will share their snacks
Mint Juleps or Banana Splits
BB Bats and shoestring licorice
Mary Jane’s and Squirrel Nuts too
It’s amazing what a few pennies could do
Boy do I miss eating Jewish pickles from Sid’s grocery store
Chips and a Pepsi would sure even the score
Not Wise© though cause they were usually burnt
Practically every chip in the bag is green or turnt
It’s a shame I tell you, a waste of potatoes for
