About this ebook

The inspiration for Elixir of the Heart started years ago when life threw a few unexpected turns. I found an Inner peace when the pen danced with the paper. I let the words and emotions take its own path, where it lead to beautiful places and happy faces. This book could not be possible without the collaboration of R.H. Ali, who brought some of the most talented poets, models and photographers from all around the beautiful island of Trinidad, West Indies. Every author in this book brings a piece of their cultural heritage and language from as far as Trinidad to Guyana, London to India and New York City to Puerto Rico, Jamaica to Haiti, and Panama to the Philippines. Every page tells a story so surreal that it comes alive. As an added extra this book contains a children section which captures the innocence of young artist, painters and poets from the tender age of 6 to 10.

Come sail on a voyage or travel down memory lane...where paths lead to trails and rivers flow to oceans. Where nights are filled with joy and laughter and days are filled with excitement and adventures. Photography so alive, so breathtaking that they leap from every page. Each poem tells a story, every story tells a volume one which peaks your interest to finding more hidden secrets. When you finally think you know where the words will lead you, a last it becomes a twist. The added surprise in this book is the works of the children of tomorrow. You see and read their innocence. Writing about their puppy or baking a cake, creating a class painting or a simply smile that would lighten up your face. So begin your journey, stare at a photo or sit by the ocean and soak up the sun. Wherever the book takes you...it will be most adventurous.

Sharon Ghanny

My name is Nazima Sharon Ghanny, A native of Trinidad and Tobago. I reside in New York City when I hold a Masters in public administration with a concentration in healthcare and a certificate in journalism. I am no stranger to the stage where I sing in Hindi and chutney songs, for music is my passion. My inspiration for this book started two years ago when life took many curves and twist. I found an inner peace with the pen and paper, and began to write. I let the words and emotions take it's own path where it led me to beautiful places and happy faces. This book began with one person and is now, a collaboration of many authors, photographers and illustrators who has made this book come alive. After loosing several dear ones to diabetes I formed a nonprofit foundation called Sugarbabies diabetic foundation.

Our Forever Wish It Could Not Steal

    By Nazmeen Salfralie

    Only a hope, a dream

At sixteen we would not yet meet

    I wondered of my soulmate

    Who was he to be?

    Five years would pass

    When I would see

    Those intrigued and sparkling eyes

    Smiling up at me

    They would hold me captive

    For twenty plus eight

Those eyes and heart and love

    In laughter that binds and

    Love that seals

Glorious were the fishes in the sea

    The sun in the sky

    The mountains so high

    Carefree laughter

    Of days so fun

    Caressing me

    From toe to crown

    For years and years

    Love as our only guide

    We conquered it all

    In kindness, compassion and tears

But in the midst of one day

    When you suddenly left

My words would stop and laughter halt

Heart racing in awe and thought

My forever friend it did steal

    How can this be

    With glistening eyes

    I knew a way

I remembered your words so clear, my love

I remembered your words I hear

    "My forever wish

    it could not steal"

    Those words in my heart

    I walk this earth,

    Resigned to wait

    For hand in hand

    We shall skip those rocks

    And lie by the river,

Our heads thrown back in wild abandon

    At your story so joyful

    So now I await

    Our love sublime

Even now though you are gone

    the dream is real.

    My Head Buzzes

    By Nazmeen Salfralie

    When my head buzzes

With thoughts of you and I

When my heart aches for you

When I am alone with the walls as my company

    My darling

It’s only you I dream of

    It’s only you

When the sun peeps through the trees

When the water glistens in my eyes

    When the birds chirp

    When the leaves peek

    My darling its only you

    I long to hold

    When the eyes see me

    They see only us

    They see only us

    When I hug

    I hug only you

    My baby

You are always on my mind

If I could build you a mansion

It would be of gold and stone

    You were a simple man

But you were the highest high my love

Your arms were the widest wide

    The loftiest thoughts

    The grandest man

    The best of the best

    I love you my darling

    I love you

    Forever and ever

    My darling Don

    I will be yours.
