Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
I have been through so much that I am overwhelmed to fulfill my purpose in life by sharing with you how far dealing with diabetes has empowered me to pull you to write your own story for the future generation. You are encouraged to read Living with Diabetes more than once, because my eyes are full with tears for the reason that as a diabetic, I failed to control my high blood glucose levels for years, leading to complications like stroke, eye problems, and neuropathies, simply due to lack of understanding, support, and poor self-care home management. No more excuses and I forgive myself because there are better opportunities for me and you to do things better now than we did before. I may be compelled to refer to established data and records of experts’ studies to clarify my views. I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of twenty-eight. My father was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a few months later. He lived longer partly because he worked hard as a farmer for a living and to raise his ten children. He went to be with the Lord eleven years ago, at the age of eighty-two. Most people on both sides of my parents developed diabetes and died from its complications, like stroke, leg amputation, and heart and kidney diseases. The sad news was that most of them did not have proper medical care. Today, family members who are being diagnosed with diabetes live longer because of new interventions and improvement in the health-care system. I take this opportunity to thank once again the experts in this field who have been dedicating their time and
