Foreword
I was serving as pastor in the Changed Life Recovery Program (a Christ-centered, in-house, drug and alcohol addiction recovery program) at the Frederick Rescue Mission. A major part of my responsibilities was to teach the residents about sin—the driving force behind addiction—and the hope for healing and deliverance God offered through Christ. Classes included both Christcentered addiction material and verse-by-verse Bible study.
Bob was a relatively new Christian who was looking for ways to serve others, and the mission seemed like a great place to do that. He was willing to do anything he could to help the residents or to assist the mission. He also faithfully attended the classes I taught.
I saw Bob grow from a shy attendee to an emboldened minister over the years. Now he is teaching Bible study at the mission and in the local jail and preaching at his church and the mission’s chapel services. He attended college to expand his understanding of addiction recovery and the workings of the human brain. He’s writing books based on what he learns from the Scriptures, in the classroom, and by experience.
Bob is a man who is passionately in love with the Lord. He lives and breathes the gospel. He is driven to serve God and others with compassion, energy, and resources. He has forsaken worldly wealth to obtain eternal riches. His unassuming humility is every bit as powerful as his passion.
Every time I am around Bob, I am challenged to delve deeper into the gospel, to love God and others more, and to tighten up my walk
with the Lord. I believe that is a mark of a true disciple of Christ.
I highly recommend Bob’s books and trust God is using them to further his kingdom. Bob stands to receive a great reward one day in heaven.
