This poem encapsulates the essence of the calloused foot drifter in that history is crafted and written by the victors or those who possess the talent to influence readers and encourage them to buy into their vision. As the verse states; if you don’t know your history, you’re doomed to repeat it. There are many shades of the same color, many dimensions to the same realm, and many sides to every story. This is my narrative, this is my vision, this story is mine.

all of my thoughts, dreams and anger

are written and manifested on these pages.

it’s like for the longest time

my passion was kept in cages,

incarcerated like a criminal and let out in stages,

paroled but suppressed as if my words were truly dangerous.

regardless, my book of poetry gets thicker by the day, minute and hour

now I know that the rage and love contained in my heart, that sets me apart,

gives my pen power.

the power to keep the trials and tribulations,

the struggles and triumphs of past generations,

a topic our people will keep in their thoughts and on their lips;

because, if you don’t know your history, you’re doomed to
