The Story of Dodger Pattinson
Dodger was his nickname, most people know,
Foxhound trails are where he would go,
He knew these mountains, better than most,
And here today, I’m at the starting post.
‘Sweet Ennerdale’ was the song he sang,
Trailing the Cumbrian Mountains was that man,
Holding his horn and walking stick,
‘Sweet Ennerdale’, ‘Sweet Ennerdale’ was the song he picked.
From the short time that I knew him and the stories that he told,
Sitting by the fireside, away from the cold,
The sweet smell of aroma from his pipe,
Surrounded the kitchen and dimmed the light.
He showed me walking sticks that he had made,
By his hands and a sharpened blade,
My memory of him will never die,
As I know he is with us, as a spirit in the sky.
We all knew him in our own special way,
Some because of his songs and what others say,
Dodger, we’ll all miss you, especially me,
For your courage and, most of all, your personality.
June 1992
Today is so Full of Fun
Somewhere within the distance,
Of all shadows floating by,
Was a silver cloud,
Which stood in the crowd,
In the clearing of the deep blue sky.
The weather changed so suddenly,
It finally began to rain,
And today was so full of fun,
My sides were full of pain.
So with all the fun I had,
Of today’s clouds and rain,
I think I’ll take the next flight out,
To the sunny side of Spain.
Delivering Time
Time is such a virtue from within the mind,
Altogether better you will surely find,
The clock ticks away as your life expires,
From the bottomless pit are your heart’s desires.
