Bailey Ziehmer

My name is Bailey Ziehmer, I’m 19 years old and have lived with my amazing grandparents since I was five. My mom passed away when I was nine from drinking and smoking. I work hard every day with my cleaning jobs and writing but always save time to watch some Netflix. Some of my best ideas come from dreams, working, or even daydreaming. The two things I live by is “Expect the worst, but hope for the best!” and “Stay unforgettable!” which was how I came up with my first series, The Unforgettable Series. Though every day is a struggle when living with your grandparents, having no mom, and not talking to your dad, I never let that get me down. I have amazing friends and family who have supported me through the struggles and prayed for a better day. The Unforgettable Series has been the series that made me smile in some of the hardest situations and laugh when I felt like crying. Acting has always been a huge dream of mine as well, one that I hope to shoot for in the near future. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be the next actress in Supernatural or Game of Thrones? Either way, I may just seem like a regular girl, but to some I am what my books are, Unforgettable.

The Unforgettable Family - Bailey Ziehmer

    CHAPTER 1

    63115.png

    Bailey

I slammed the door shut behind me, looking back at Keith who watched from the driver side window.

Wait here, I need to talk to Damon first, I said as Keith nodded in response. I was more surprised that he had no smartass comment and that he was actually listening to me.

The sound of the front door of the Jackson house opening and closing was the only thing heard. The house seemed to be lit up like there was a party, but there wasn’t, there was a war.

Damon and Steven stood around a table, talking about something but when they saw me, they both stopped. Damon’s face turned to anger while Steven took a few steps back to let us deal with this ourselves.

Damon, we need to talk, I said calmly.

Yeah, we do, how about we start off with you making the stupidest decision of your life, next to choosing to stay with me, Damon said angrily.

I hated that he always talked himself down to me, and that he still believes I shouldn’t have chosen him.

First of all, I know that the decision I made may sound stupid right now, but I don’t care. Second of all, I choose you because I love you. Damon, I just rode with one of the oldest vampires ever, who I swear has more issues then you do, because I will not sit on the sidelines and watch this fight go down.

Damon was silent, looking as if some of his anger was starting to dissolve.

Now, I know about the cure, I know what you and Steven have known for years. And, we’ll worry about that later, because right now we need to take care of Erica and Sam- Together.

Slowly, Damon walked up to me, stopping when he was directly in front of me. He searched my face for something, but I couldn’t figure out what he was looking for.

It wasn’t until he said, Fine, that I was convinced he wouldn’t try to make me leave again.

Good, and no more of this You shouldn’t have chosen me crap. Because I did, and I don’t regret it, I said firmly. The smallest smile grew on Damon’s face, letting me know we were okay.

Keith! I yelled and suddenly the front door opened.

No need to yell, Keith smirked, I was already listening.

Damon smiled the fakest smile ever as he said, Keith, won’t you come in.

Keith smiled wide and let himself in, closing the door behind him before joining us. Seeing that it was safe, Steven joined us again.

So, what is this information you have that we apparently need, Damon asked, leading us to a table with piles of books, papers, and some weapons.

Keith knows where Sam is and the cure, I spoke up first, making Steven and Damon go silent.

Instantly, Damon had Keith pinned against the wall. You knew! You knew this entire time and never thought to say anything to us, not even when Bailey turned? Damon yelled furiously.

Keith smiled at Damon and leaned forward, No, because if the world knew about the cure then everyone would be jumping at it. And, I’d like to keep all the cards that I can.

I vamp-sped up to Damon, and pulled him off Keith. Enough! Now we can argue about things later, but for right now we need to focus on Sam and Erica, I said angrily and annoyed.

Damon sighed and nodded before taking a few more steps back.

Sam knows where the cure is, and he is going to destroy it. You find the cure, you find Sam, Keith said plainly.

How do we know he doesn’t already have the cure, or hasn’t already destroyed it? Steven asked.

Keith smiled at this question. I’ve had some friends keep an eye on the cure since I returned to town. They said they’d call if Sam got too close.

Friends? Steven asked confused, clearly not believing the word.

He means allies, he has no friends, I said and Keith looked at me, almost hurt by my comment.

Damon, clearly annoyed and angry, said, So, what do we do now?

We wait for the phone call from Keith’s friend and then catch Sam, I said. I wasn’t thrilled with the waiting game, but if it meant finding Sam than I’d play it.

Good, we have a plan, but we’re missing one little thing - Erica, Damon said, using his pointer finger and thumb to make a small space.

I say we leave Erica be, if we come across her then we take care of her otherwise we focus on Sam and the cure, I said, crossing my arms slightly.

Keith smiled at my comment, Spoken like a true vampire.

Shaking my head as I walked over to the mini bar to pour myself a drink I said, Not quite Keith, not quite.

Taking a sip of my drink, I watched as a frustrated Damon walked over and grabbed my drink, taking a huge gulp of it before sitting down. I ended up making drinks for everyone in the room, all blood with Bourbon.

Well, if my work here is done- Keith started. But, I pointed my finger at him and said, Don’t even think about it original. You need to stay so we know when Sam gets near the cure, and you still haven’t even told us where the cure even is.

Keith smiled and sat his hands up in defense before taking a seat in one of the chairs.

Good boy, I said with a smile, making Keith’s face glare at me. This gained a smile from Damon and Steven.

Damon leaned close to my ear, whispering, Can you teach me that?

I smiled at his comment, responding with, It’s all in the attitude.

We spent a good half an hour just hanging out and impatiently waiting for Keith’s friend to call him. By now, Keith was still in the chair, Steven was at the bar, Damon was sitting on the couch, and I was loading up a couple of guns and hiding some knives.

Finally, Keith’s friend called, telling Keith that Sam was close by and Erica was nowhere in sight. Turns out the cure has been under us all along. Tunnels that were used for runaway slaves sat under the town, holding secrets and the cure.

Great, now you can leave - thank you Keith, I said, grabbing my leather jacket and slipping it on while Damon did the same.

Keith nodded and stood up as well, fixing his brown jacket. I knew what I was going to do next was going to shock everyone, but like I said, Keith does have a heart.

I leaned over and gave Keith a quick kiss on the cheek, leaving a shocked expression on his face.

Turning around to grab Damon’s hand, I noticed the shocked expression on his face as well. Dragging Damon out the door he said, You know we’ll have to talk about this right?

    I know, I said with a smile.

    CHAPTER 2

    63118.png

    Bailey

Okay, I had Keith text me the directions on how to get to the cure. The entrance is somewhere in the woods, I said looking at my phone. I looked out the window at the happy sun. Good thing it’s a sunny day.

Damon, as he drove fearlessly down the road with a smirk, said, "So, we find Sam, kill him, get the cure, and throw a party full of drinks, blood, and girls.

My glaring face looked at Damon, making him look back at the road. Okay, maybe just drinks and blood, he said, making me laugh.

We were laughing, but inside we were screaming. If you would have seen us, you would have thought we were normal, a couple going out on a date or a couple returning from a long trip that held more laughs and smiles than ours ever did.

But, we were far from it.

We were vampires, walking into a battle that could lead us to our deaths or our new lives. The sun held lies in its glow. It wasn’t a sunny day and the feeling of warmth and relaxation seen everywhere wasn’t real for us.

This was a battle, one that would forever change our lives and our friend’s lives.

It wasn’t until Damon’s car came to a stop in the middle of the deep woods that I felt my nerves kick in. A mixture of fear, excitement, and adrenalin overwhelmed me. And, the way Damon squeezed my hand told me that he felt the same way.

Damon and I got out of the car, an old well with grass and vines growing around it stood in front of us. There it was, the entrance to the tunnels.

My hand reached into my back pocket, double-checking on the directions. Okay, two lefts, a right, and another left, I read again, repeating it a couple of times to make sure I had it down.

Suddenly, Damon’s phone went off, making me jump slightly at the sound. It was so quiet and neither of us expected any calls.

Yeah Steven? Damon asked, listening to what Steven had to say. I didn’t bother to listen for two reasons. One, I trust Damon to tell me the truth. Two, not being able to hear phone calls was part of being human and I wasn’t ready to completely let that go - doesn’t mean that at times I didn’t want to.

Are you sure? Damon said as he paused to listen and then sighed as though defeated. Alright, was the last thing he said before hanging up.

What is it? I asked, afraid of the answer he would give me.

Becky and Ellie combined their magic and located Erica using a locator spell. She’s about to leave town, if we want to stop her then we need to do it now.

I was in disbelief. Damon was willing to give up this cure just to stop Erica who was leaving town anyways?

But, Sam is right there, I said, pointing to the well. If we don’t stop him now, he’ll destroy the cure and we might never get this chance to stop him again.

Damon looked at his hands before looking back at the well. I know, was all he said at first. But, I could see the wheels turning in his head which meant he had an idea. Whether or not it was good or bad I didn’t know.

    What are you thinking?

Damon looked back at me, by the look on his face I knew it was a bad idea. I’m thinking that one of us should stop Sam and the other one stop Eric.

    Yup, bad idea.

What? No, no way, we do this together, I said shaking my head. Not wanting to hear anymore.

We can’t though, at least not this, Damon said, trying to get it through my stubborn mind.

That was it! I was sick and tired of the universe trying to pull us apart over and over every single day. Not this time, I was fighting this one.

So, what if we don’t stop Erica!

If we don’t, then she could return with others. She could find more people who are against me and our relationship. If we let her go, she could become invincible. Bailey - if that happens, then we’ll never be free.

Well crap, he had me there.

Throwing my hands up, I said, So what? You want to go after Erica yourself?

Damon’s silence gave me my answer, which only made my eyes water and my head shake. What if you don’t come back? What if something happens and you’re killed or taken, or I’m killed or taken? I can’t lose you Damon. We’ve fought too long and too hard for all of this to go out the door.

I know, I know, Damon said, wrapping his arms around me and holding me close as if this was the last time. This small demonstration of affection scared me even more. One hand rubbed my hair, trying to sooth the tears that started to escape.

The way you’re talking makes it sound like I’m going to lose, Damon said with a small smile. I felt his chest move a little, telling me he had laughed softly.

No, I just wish there was another way, I said pulling away and drying my eyes.

Damon helped wipe my tears away and smiled softly and comforting, I know, me too.

I stared into his eyes, remembering every little color, hoping that this wouldn’t be the last time I would see them. I love you.

I love you too, so, so much that you have no idea.

Leaning up, my lips touched his passionately. But, by the time they had pulled away, he was gone.

My body stood still for a moment, as if hoping that someone was going to jump out and say that these last couple of years were a joke and that everything was fine. But, this wasn’t a TV show, no matter how many times I wished it was.

Once my body was able to move, I started my descent into the dark, empty well.

My boots hit the ground with a thud, the smell wasn’t horrible but it definitely didn’t smell like the Febreze Isle. I turned my flashlight on, repeating the turns in my head over and over again, knocking them of as I made them.

    Left, Left, Right, Left

    Left, Right, Left

    Right, Left

    Left

Congratulations, you have reached your destination.

There was nothing. Not a person, a sound, not even a light just a dead end.

A groan escaped my lips as I stomped my foot, Keith, I said angrily.

I turned around to start my search once again. Maybe I made a wrong turn or Keith gave me wrong directions? For all I know, the cure might not even be down here – maybe he has it.

Well, well, well, Sam’s voice said as he walked out from the dark shadows, standing in front of my only exit. He wore all black, except for his dark blue jeans. I was expecting Damon, but it looks like he went after his old girlfriend, Sam said with a devilish smile that told me Erica leaving was part of their plan.

Well, it looks like you weren’t very prepared then, I said, pulling out my knife from my back pocket.

Sam’s smile only grew when he saw the knife, See that’s where you’re wrong. I was expecting the angry, powerful Damon Jackson, but instead I got the weak, scared little Bailey Chase.

A long knife with substance dripping from it was pulled out from a small case that hung on his waist. The smell of vervain filled my nose, making them burn slightly.

So, I think I came more than prepared, Sam said, clenching his knife roughly.

My grip around my knife grew tighter, I was ready to fight till the death.

    CHAPTER 3

    63120.png

    Damon

My shoes made little to no noise on the empty road. Becky texted me the directions to where Erica was, only to lead me to an empty road just before the borderline of our town. There was a huge field on one side of me and an area of small woods on the other.

I came to a pause when I noticed two cars ahead of me. The driver side to one of the cars was open and a dinging noise could be heard.

Confusion filled me, as I got closer and closer to the cars. It wasn’t until I stopped at the open door that I saw Erica drinking a man dry.

See someone was hungry, I said, already regretting coming here alone. Erica had just fed on a grown man and I haven’t fed on a human in a while which means she’ll be stronger than me.

    Oh, joy.

Erica ripped her fangs from the man, smiling through the blood. Oh, I’m sorry, did you want a bite?

She leaned the guy towards me, only to have me stand still with no comment. I didn’t come here to talk, I came here to end this.

When I made no movement, Erica tossed the lifeless body to the side, giving me her full attention. A few years ago I had a plan, one I intended to see through. Steven and I were happy, Chloe and Becky had their own little boyfriends, and you, Damon Jackson, were in a different town tearing into some flesh.

Erica’s heels clicked on the black cement, circling me. But, then you had to go and ruin it, she said pushing me forward. My body landed onto the cement with a thud.

I looked up to see Erica looking down at me with disappointment and anger. What did you see in her Damon?

Something you’ll never have, I started with a smile before it turned to anger. A heart.

Erica paused for a moment, almost hurt by my comment, before saying, Well, I guess you’ll know what that feels like soon. Since I’ll be tearing it from your body in a matter of minutes. I bet that’s what Sam is doing to Bailey right now.

Anger roared through me making my body quickly stand up and jump on top of Erica, her body collided with the ground as a smile appeared on her face.

It’s been awhile since we were in this position, Erica smirked to me.

I rolled my eyes in disgust at her which she used to her advantage as she grabbed me, pinning me to a tree near-by. My back ached from the harsh contact.

You couldn’t just leave her be, could you? You took her memories away just to bring them back? Who does that? Erica asked, yanking me forward only to slam my back up against the tree again.

Erica leaned forward, whispering in my ear, Every little thing that has happened to me since that day, is all on you.

Grabbing Erica, I threw her away from me, throwing her body into a bigger tree. Her body rolled quickly from branch to branch, hitting the ground with a loud thud. Branches and leaves scattered the area around her.

I slipped off my jacket and threw it to the ground furiously.

Erica slowly got up, her vampire body healing the bruises and broken bones. Once she stood up, she stumbled around slightly, smirking through the blood that rolled into her mouth.

I charged at her once again, prepared to kill her in seconds. Right as I grabbed her, she made a sharp turn and hooked her arm around my throat. I felt her grip tighten around me.

I had been in this position so many times I knew exactly what she was trying to do. She was trying to break my neck so she could kill me herself or torture me. Either way, I was an old vampire, I knew how to get out of this.

You’re weak Damon Jackson, Erica said angrily in my ear as her grip around my neck tightened. My eyes raced to find something near me to use as a weapon. They stopped on a branch that was by our feet.

Or maybe you just can’t kill me, Erica said, a smirk slipped through her voice.

Wanna bet? I choked out and grabbed the branch, pushing it through Erica’s heart.

Erica’s grip around my neck released instantly, giving me the chance to slip out of her arms and look at her fully. Her eyes were wide as she looked down at the branch that stuck out of her bloody heart.

    Damon, Erica’s sad voice said.

I watched as she fell to her knees before collapsing to the ground, dead. A feeling of relief and pain overcame my body.

The relief? That Erica was finally out of our lives and out of our hair.

The pain? That Erica was right - everything that she became was because of me, because of what I did.

Shaking the thoughts away, I quickly grabbed my jacket and ran back to the tunnels in hope that when I arrived it would be Sam’s head on a stick and not Bailey’s.

    CHAPTER 4

    63122.png

    Bailey

Sam slashed at me again with his Vervain Knife just missing me as I jumped backwards, almost hitting the wall behind me.

Once again, Sam charged for me making my shaking body vamp-run out of the way, but he expected it and slashed my side. I felt the vervain seep into my skin, burning the inside of my body as it swam around.

My hand covered the bleeding wound, feeling the vervain that had gotten in my bloodstream already start burning my hand slightly. Sam took this to his advantage and raced up, slamming me into the rocky wall.

With a fist full of hair, Sam slammed my head against the rocks. A huge headache began in my head, making the room spin.

Any final words Bailey Chase? Sam asked as he pulled out a stake from his back pocket.

My hands pushed at Sam, hoping to push him away from me, but with the vervain still running through my system I had no strength. I was done for.

My dizzy eyes searched around me for any sort of weapon, but annoyance took over me when I found nothing.

It was then that I noticed him - Damon. His head peeked around one of the cave walls, looking at Sam and me.

Before Sam could notice, I moved my attention back to him and smirked through the pain. I hear death is an awfully big adventure, let me know how it goes.

Sam’s face looked confused as he tried to process what I had said.

Luckily, Damon took my words as a sign of attack and threw Sam off of me. His head hit the wall and the smell of blood filled my nostrils.

I don’t know if it was the feeling of being weak or the lack of blood in my system, but whatever it was, was making the hunger in my throat grow.

Damon looked back at me just in time to see me charge for Sam’s weak body, fangs out. In one quick movement he grabbed ahold of me, stopping my struggling body from attack.

Bailey, don’t, Damon said and threw me backwards, away from Sam. Just breathe through it, just breathe, He said, putting his hand up to stop me.

It wasn’t until Damon’s body tensed up and his body jerked upward did I come back to my senses. A groan escaped his lips as he fell to his knees. A stake stuck out from his back, right at his heart.

My heart stopped and my mind ran, faster than any vampire could run.

No, I said as my legs gave out and fell to the ground in front of Damon. His eyes struggled to stay open as I held his head in my hands, shaking him so he would stay awake.

I leaned Damon on my shoulder and ripped out the stake, seeing it had just missed his heart. Relief filled me when I realized he would be okay.

When I looked up, I saw Sam charge for Damon and me with another stake. I threw Damon to the side, out of the way, and slid backwards, which caused Sam to miss us and hit the ground in front of me.

Using this to my advantage, I kicked Sam straight in the face before picking myself up.

Sam picked himself up off the ground, holding the Vervain Knife in one hand and a stake in the other. Blood oozed out of his head and nose, but my attention wasn’t on the blood anymore, it was on killing him.

A small scream escaped my lips as I vamp-sped towards Sam. My mind moved fast as if it was on fast forward. All this time I was fighting Sam and failing, because I wasn’t letting my senses or my body take over.

Now I was, and I wasn’t going down without him.

My body slammed Sam’s up to the rocky wall, then another, then another. With every new wall I hit my body pushed harder and the walls cracked even more. Small pieces of rocks fell from the ceiling, telling me if I continued doing this then I would bring the whole place down.

My grip released on Sam, letting his body drop to the ground. A smirk formed in the blood on his face as he looked up at me. One eye was almost swollen shut, there was a gash on his head that continued to bleed, his nose was broken and bloody, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a few ribs broken.

You’re weak, Sam spat at me, showing his blood stained teeth. You can beat me up and throw me around like a rag doll all you want, but when it comes down to it you’ll never be able to do what needs to be done.

    And what’s that?

    Sam leaned forward, Kill me.

I couldn’t help but smirk and shake my head at him. You don’t think I can kill you? I asked and grabbed him by his neck, picking him up off the ground.

I know you won’t, because if you did then you would be the monster that everyone saw you were. The monster that would kill anyone that got in between Damon and you.

My mouth couldn’t help but part in shock at his answer. His true answer.

It’s called love, Damon groaned from his spot on the floor.

I looked over to see he had sat himself up on the wall, looking at Sam and me as he waited for his wound to heal.

Damon smirked slightly at Sam, I guess you wouldn’t know what that feels like.

Maybe I don’t, Sam said and gripped my hand, twisting it forcefully. A loud cracked and a scream echoed through the cave, causing me to break the grip with Sam.

I heard Damon’s growl as I cradled my broken hand. Damon vamp-sped up and charged to Sam, throwing him across the cave with an angry force.

Sam’s body collided with one of the walls of the cave again before falling to the ground. The cave shook and pieces of rocks started to fall around us.

Damon and I looked around before looking at each other. We have got to go, Damon said and grabbed my hand, yanking me out of the cave. But, my body came to a stop as I looked back at Sam. He laid unconsciously on the cave floor, but the thing I noticed was the small, glass bottle that laid by him.

    The cure.

Wait, Damon, the cure, I said and yanked my good arm away before running back in and grabbing the cure.

Bailey! Damon yelled, making me look up just in time to see the ceiling start to come crashing down. My eyes looked around, seeing the small opening in the wall that Keith had told me about.

    Flashback

The cure should be at the end of the hall, in a box, in a secret compartment in the wall, Keith said to me and I nodded.

I turned to leave, but was stopped by Keith’s hand on my arm. My face turned and looked at him, seeing the concerned look in his eyes.

His face looked around the dark night, checking for any other vampire around us only to find none. His attention then returned to me. Listen, if something happens, there’s a small hole in the far wall that will lead you to a different compartment. Follow those caves and it should lead you back to the entrance.

I looked at Keith for a moment before nodding, Thank you Keith.

Stay safe, He said before I turned and left, heading into the Jackson house.

    End of Flashback

Using every ounce of strength I had, I vamp-sped over to the small hole and crawled for dear life. I felt like Samara from the ring, crawling up the well.

The cave crumbled behind me, making me crawl even faster. The cave got darker and darker to the point that I couldn’t even see in front of me.

My hands ran across the cold cave floor, looking for the edge as I quickly crawled. My right hand ached and screamed for me to stop, but I had to get out of here.

Suddenly, my body fell forward and I landed with a thud. My body ached and my hand throbbed as I pulled myself up, looking around to see nothing but darkness. My hand reached through the darkness and found the wall, I followed it until I saw the light pour in from the well.

Relief took over me as I quickly ran over to it, letting the rays of sunlight pour onto me.

Bailey! No! Please! Come back! Please! Damon’s yelling voice echoed through the cave, bringing me back to reality.

Damon! Damon, I’m by the well! I yelled in hopes he could find his way back. I grabbed my phone from my pocket, seeing it had cracks all around it. Praying it would work, I pushed the power button and was relieved to see the screen.

Clicking the light on, I shined it down the cave in hopes this would give him some type of light to follow. I waited anxiously, continuously calling Damon’s name.

Bailey, A whispering voice said behind me, making me quickly turn around, shining my light around to find the source. No one, not a person. The voice was so faint and faded that I convinced myself I was
