Prologue
This book is written for any golfer with a handicap of fourteen and more. It is also targeted for those golfers that usually play on public courses or privately owned courses open to the general public. By following these rules, golfers will increase their likelihood of enjoying the game for as long as they are fit enough to swing a club.
I have also included in this book the Fun Games for Poker.
I have learned through my experiences that many of the same people that play golf also like to hunt and fish. I have found that each sport requires a time frame of five to six hours. The efforts at each endeavor seem to be quite related. Golfers hunt through fields for a little white ball while hunters and fisher persons spend hours looking for elusive game and fishing. Each of these pursuits can involve foul weather, rough conditions, and considerable expense that greatly outweigh the economic value of the prize. Why do they seek these prizes? They do so for their own satisfaction and sense of accomplishment. They also enjoy the companionship of the others that participate with them in their quest.
For the reasons noted above, this book joins these two areas together. They yield the fun that arrives in their pursuit, but they also enjoy one another’s friendship in the after hours following their main purpose. The time frames mentioned above are similar. The hours spent after may occur at the club, the campsite, or the cabin.
When we play poker, we play with our friends. We enjoy the various games and the good-natured friendship. We play just like we do in the sports cited above. We all want to win, but the goal is not an economic gain. We just enjoy the challenge. I have belonged to at least six different poker groups as I have lived in various cities. Even today I belong to two groups separated by a distance of five hundred miles, one in Northern California and one in Southern California. The types of games we play are designed for fun, just like the rules of golf provided in the first part of this book. You will
