31 Days of Praise - Alexis Hamlor

    PRELUDE

    Acknowledging Consistent Inconsistencies

I T’S THE MOST wonderful time of the year, as the famous singer Andy Williams would croon. The month of December is a renowned time of year, in which folks enjoy holiday shopping, good cheer, laughter and some good ole fashion eggnog. Glory be to God! However, with this in mind, it seems as though there is a high level of consistent inconsistencies. This is especially prevalent during the Christmas season. In the Big Apple where I come from, people are not very consistent with the theme of the holiday. You know how we have always been told to be kind, gentle, and nice when holiday shopping here and there…and remembering those Christmas carols that convey, caring, sharing and consideration for our neighbors? Well clearly we haven’t been consistent in that area. Instead, we see that there is consistently pushy, impatient, and to some degree inconsideration for others. This made me wonder for a moment, what would happen if God became inconsistent with his dealings towards us? Please stay with me for a while.

If God decided, that he was just fed up with our pushy, impatient and lack of care towards each other, what would we do? Where would we go? Do you ever stop and think about that? I believe King David understood how frustrating it could be to deal with folks who are inconsistent and double-minded in their thinking. He dealt with such behaviors when it came down to King Saul on several occasions. However, he didn’t allow that to keep him from doing God’s will. And he not only performed God’s will with fidelity and devotion, but he made sure that he set an example of what consistency looked like to his children and their offspring. Now don’t get me wrong, David fell short, but after he repented, he made sure that he consistently kept his focus on God before making any decisions.

So, as a thought to open up volume three of this book, I wanted you to consider how consistent you have been towards the individuals in your life. How often do you call to check on them, stop by to pay them a visit, or even invite them to your place of worship? And I’m not talking about just during the holidays. How consistent are you in your walk with God all throughout the year? How often do you call on Him in prayer and meditation? Family, let’s make a step in committing to being positively consistent with each other. Let’s even take it a step further, and try to be consistent in reading these two-minute devotions on a daily basis. I know that you will be blessed by it! Happy Reading

    PART II

    DAYS 1 THROUGH 31

    DAY 1

    Forbidden, But Not Forgotten

    G OOD MORNING FAMILY,

Do you ever catch a glimpse of those Dead End signs, as you’re driving down the road? It’s an instant reminder that you can no longer go any further in that direction of your journey. Instead, you have to turn away and find another route. Or how about the DO NOT ENTER signs, that are plastered just about any place that a person is forbidden from entering into. Let’s take a look at scripture, because like most of us, I believe that Moses understood what the terms DEAD END, and DO NOT ENTER, meant in more ways than one.

In the book of Numbers, Chapter 20-God gave Moses specific instructions regarding the Israelites. He was told to speak to the rock so that it would spring forth water for the people to drink. (verse 12) However Moses did not speak to the rock. Instead, he struck it twice with the rod and he took credit for the miracle that God had performed. In verse 10, he stated: must we bring you water from this rock? (Keep in mind, that the we, he is speaking of, is he and the Lord). As a result of his disobedience in striking the rock, Moses was forbidden from entering into the Promised Land.

The Bible says, that Moses pleaded with the Lord about what he had done until God said, speak of it no more. (Deuteronomy 3: Verse 26) He proceeded to tell Moses to look over the land in every direction. Take a good look, but you may not cross the Jordan River. (Verse 27) In other words, YOU ARE FORBIDDEN, THIS IS YOUR DEAD END, and YOU MAY NOT ENTER. To make a long story short, God had to raise up the younger generation. This is where Joshua comes into play.

Family, Moses was a powerful, well-respected leader, however his lack of obedience in carrying out God’s instruction, forbid him from entering into the Promised Land. Although Moses may have been forbidden, he was certainly not forgotten.

    Let us pray,

Father, help us to stay focused and do all parts of the tasks that you have set out for us to complete. Allow us to be obedient, and perform our earthly duties without taking credit for the great things you have done. We thank you and ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

    God Bless Family!
