About this ebook
Since his parents were killed the day that he was born, Mark never knew the meaning of having parents. In his life, he doesn’t know what it felt like to be loved by his parents. After his adoptive parents died in a car accident, he was the only legitimate heir of their wealth and power.
Using their influence, he found out who killed his parents. From that day, Mark had only one goal in his mind, and it was revenge. Throughout his life, many people told him that, “Money is the root of all evil,” but to him, it wasn’t.
Mark knew that he needed help from Alexia, who was reluctant to help him. You see, the murderer is her son-in-law. She finally agreed on a compromise and their plan was perfect. There was only one question left to be answered, “Why did Alexia die in the end?”

Chapter 1
JOHN
J ohn was walking around his house when he saw that someone was walking towards him. Being paranoid, he stepped inside and shut all the doors and windows. John knew that since he was only 6 years old, he was supposed to listen to his parents, who had forbidden him from wandering outside the house, especially when nobody’s home. There was nobody home, but he never thought that he would be scared to see someone outside.
He was never actually allowed to leave his house for which he never had a reasonable explanation for why he couldn’t do so. His mom would always tell him that if he wanted anything, she would obtain it for him so that he wouldn’t need to leave the house at all. His parents would always say that even if he set a foot out of the door, he would immediately get kidnapped and killed. Being home-schooled, he had never met anyone of his age, which caused him to not have any friends.
At times, they would take him out for a holiday near the mountains for a month. Even there, he would not actually meet anyone because it was mostly deserted. The only person he saw was the receptionist when they checked into the hotel. During their holiday, they would roam around the forest to observe the birds or something. Then, his parents would take him to the hotel’s restaurant where he would not even catch a glimpse of anyone. During their purposeless tramp in the morning, he would occasionally spot elderly couples everywhere.
John was still flashing back when he heard a knock at the door. His heart was beating so fast that he couldn’t even muster a sufficient strength to stand and check who it was, thus, he decided to just ignore it. The persistent knocking lasts for 10 minutes, and after that, the knocking escalated into banging. Being rather oldish, there was no way the door could stand any more banging and John knew that. Gathering all his might, he ran upstairs and picked up the phone to call his mom.
There’s someone at the door!
he shouted as she picked up immediately. She believed him as even through the crappy phone, the banging could be heard. Instantaneously, John was told to hide inside the bathroom and lock the door. Asking if he should call the police, she answered no because that would cause him to lose some time and it sounded that the door had already broken at that time.
Hurriedly, he did what he was told to. Through the bathroom door, he could hear someone coming up the stairs. This time, he wasn’t too scared. The reason behind it is simple: everyone who has seen the bathroom door would conclude that it is unshakable. The person who broke into the house did try to at least budge the door a little but stopped after hearing the police siren. At that point, 10 minutes had passed since his mother called the cops. The police stormed the house, and they didn’t find anything except for John, who surprisingly fell asleep in the bathroom.
