About this ebook

What role should women play in church ministry? Does scripture allow women to serve? The Whistleblower's Report, author Jessica Linhart offers a look at this very question, emphasizing it’s not our objective to understand the doctrine of man, but to understand God’s doctrine.

Linhart addresses controversial topics women face in ministry today, and she includes interviews with twenty-five women from throughout the country. She outlines and presents the hurdles in twenty-five separate “court cases.” Each case presents the interests of both the offenders and the offended.

The Whistleblower's Report, Linhart provides a host of Biblical evidence which leads to an in-depth study of the scriptures. Ultimately, she relies on the Holy Spirit to help guide Christians to deciphering the word in order to enter a verdict—guilty or not guilty.

I’m a member of Hissom Tabernacle Church of the Nazarene. The church is located in the heart of Charleston, WV. I’m so glad that God lead me to a church where all the members love to study God’s word. The members are really good about giving their testimonies and praise reports. The church was established in the 1934. It’s mission is truly to serve others. Monday through Friday and Wednesday nights, we serve meals to the homeless. We also have an open food pantry every Tuesday and it serves between 100 to 200 families a week. Then, we have a free clothing closet open Monday through Friday! In addition, I am currently serving as the Youth Pastor. The church allows me to volunteer in all the above areas; plus, I’m granted the following privileges: to lead the teenagers quartet, teach Wednesday night Bible studies, and be apart of the praise team. Finally, I also have 14 Bible Study books published and are available for purchase on Amazon.com. A portion of the profits from each book sold goes to fill the churches food pantry and feed the homeless.

When the word of God uses the word: man -readers should read this as man and woman. It is not exclusionary—as if women are not included. This is a common mistake in scripture! Genesis 5:7 explains that God uses the word man to mean humankind. In addition, when men and women marry they become one flesh. This one flesh is called mankind.

    Introduction:

I firmly believe that we are one in Christ. All Christians are a component of the church community where old socials standards and gender divisions have no place in ministry. My family and community is saturated in the doctrine of the Southern Baptist Convention and answering my call to preach as been met with isolation and persecutions. After, the Holy Spirit lead me to Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17 I caved into my calling! Then, all the doors God closed made since to me. Now, all the new ones He has opened for me: I’m boldly walking through. I’ve included the following scriptures for your convince and they clearly give women permission to fulfill any role God calls them too.

    (Joel 2:28; Acts 2:17 and

    2 Cor. 5:17, Gal. 3:28; 1 Corn. 12:28)

Joel 2:28-31 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. 30And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

Acts 2:17-19 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

    2 Corinthians 5:17-18 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

Galatians 3:28-29 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

1 Corinthians 12:12-28 King James Version (KJV) 12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:28 King James Version (KJV)

28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

    Scriptural Challenges:

    Evidence Part 1:

According to many church doctrines the roles women hold in ministry are often challenged on the basis of certain Scriptural passages. The leadership in these doctrines stand steadfastly that all Scriptures revolve around their doctrine. When humankind decides to hold one scripture above the rest of the scriptural passages it causes the doctrine to become a false doctrine. All Christians need to relate this selection of scriptures to all the details in the Biblical cannon. For this reason, we also understand that not one verse of scripture obviously prohibits womenfolk from sharing in positions of authority. Furthermore, on the surface, critiques of scripture appear to be frequently twisted by their interpretations. Many of the critics theology stemmed from their biased analyses of the manuscript.

We have faith in the words of God! He has increasingly exposed in the scriptures His persistence to call, prepare, and authorize women for full ministry in the church. For example, in Galatians 3:28 He declares that in the Christian era There is neither … male, nor female. This is a general principle of Scripture. Thus, all Scriptures that at first seem to contradict this statement must be evaluated. Bible scholars and the average Christian must pour in this over-all principle found in Galatians 3:28 before taking the scriptures of 1 Timothy 2:11, 1 Corinthians 11:3, 1 Corinthians 14:35, and 1 Timothy 2:8-15.

literally. Finally, with the following scriptures I challenge you to re-examine the position you hold on how women should serve in the church. The scriptures are as follows: Joel 2:28, Acts 2:17, 1 Corinthians 11:5, 2 Corinthians 5:17-18, Galatians 3:28 1 Corinthians 12:28, and the other scriptures listed within this book.

    Evidence part 2:

To began your challenge, I would like for you to answer the following question: Have you ever identified one scripture that has penetrated your mind and set up residence in your heart?

Do you have that one awesome verse? If you do please record it in the space below.

One scripture that is always there. A passage that rattles your soul. One that your heart sings too. A drum you move to. Perhaps, a scriptural meaning that hoovers over every other verse in the Bible. A segment that does not allow you to slumber. A section that’s with you in the valley and on the mountain top. Frequently, this one guides your thoughts. The one stanza that lingers. One that is the answer to the storms in your life.

What does your scripture mean to you?

My super scripture is one that will surprise you! It’s not one that man gave me. It’s the answer for the chip that’s always ridden on my shoulder. This verse stopped the toxin lodged deep within my soul. The meaning of this verse reached that no man could penetrate. Believe me, I had my fortress built! The chip on my shoulder, was prevalent for more than thirty-some years! Nothing could fix that chip! Not man, not doctors, not counselors, and certainly not my family. But, thank God for setting me free!

How has your scripture set you free?

Many people have identified that giant verse. This mega track abides deep within their soul. These folks draw their very breathe from it. They cling to it. Repeatedly, it rules their lives completely. It’s even likely that this chapter also effects the lives of others, the souls within a particular church, the folks in a community, or the souls in a particular domination. Sometimes, it’s just the beginning to the answer and occasionally it’s the final answer! Often, we spend a lifetime repeating a statement and never studying the topic. My life’s scripture are listed on page one of this book.

How does your scripture influence you when the Holy Spirit gives you new ideas?

My two scriptures are found in Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17 and I have included them below! After, reading each verse, pray for God’s interpretation and record it in the space provided.

Joel 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

In the space provided record what you know about the two verses. Then, explain the impact that you foresee these scriptures having on our study.

No one likes to be told that can’t do something, because of their race and/or gender. I can tell you from experience that this creates harsh feelings inside the person that has received the prejudice, bigotry, and intolerance! For example, Paul and Titus (Titus 1:1-9) in some instances were still following mans laws and customs not God’s. The scriptures that God speaks over rules anything a man or woman tells me. In 1 Corinthians, Paul is writing a friendly letter to Timothy. Many believe Paul is responding to Timothy, but Timothy’s letter is missing from the Bible. Today, our culture is different and many young people have no idea about pin-pals. We simply do not write letters anymore. Today, we use social media and the cell phone to convey messages to family and friends. I can’t count how many times I’ve been effected by miscommunication on those things. In addition, Culture norms change! Finally, Compare Joel 2:28 and 1 Corn. 11-12. The language is clear; God declares in Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17, that women will also be called into ministry, but Paul is simply going with what he has witnessed in society. This scripture does not say Thus said the Lord it suggests that Paul is ascertaining his authority. This view of women, needing to be controlled over, is from Satan himself; which he is
